I was in Walmart today, and bought a box of .40. Guy asked for I.D., I just thought it was funny. I know I do not look my age, guess i'll take it as a compliment.

Did they scan the back of it?

    You have been recorded!!!

I will not give my DL or phone # to cashiers anymore, had one tell me she didn't know how to finish the transaction without a phone at Bass Pro so I gave her 666-6666.

My information is not for sale.

I will allow them to see it for id purposes but it never leaves my person and I will not allow any information to be recorded.

    Welcome to 1984!

So, does anyone have an official list, and source, for what info is stored on the card?

And, if it is stored electronically, might it be "wiped" with a magnet?

I was carded the other day at Wal-mart for buying a box of 410 slugs. Like Big John I never let them take my ID from me. For two reasons. I dont want it to be scaned and two I dont know where there hands have been.

I get carded every time I buy. It isn't a big deal they just enter in my birthdate and I am on my way. The only thing that bugs me is at Meijer they hand me the boxes and tell me to just pay at the front. It really wouldn't be hard to steal the box which makes carding me moot.

The cashiers at dicks on 930 in fort wayne. hell any dicks for that matter don't know to card. I've only been in one dicks that the person working the hunting lodge told a kid he couldn't buy pistol ammo, well he could try but they ID at the register. I didn't get carded when I left though.

Casinos (among those who have card-readers) can read:
    DOB
    Eye color
    Hair color
    Weight
    Address
    Expiry

and any other information you choose to put on there (SSN/Organ donor)

I know this for a fact because they actually read my card once - yes, I do look young, so I figured I'd get carded, but I guess the blacklight wasn't enough for them, so they actually inserted it into a cardreader and I asked the guy what he was doing and looked over at the monitor he was staring at. Picture was even included. No idea as to how it's stored/what algorithm is used for storage, but it looks to be different from traditional CC-magstripe, just based on the patterning. I am guessing it's similar to UPC barcode, but have no idea. Hopefully they're not embedding RFID tags in there yet, but it's high on the wishlist for the Party.

While I haven't found the official word on what info the card contains, I did find this gem about Target's scanning of DLs: Routing by Rumor

Interestingly, the link to the website of the "American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators", including a document that describes the "22 mandatory and 23 optional data elements" included on an American DL, but that link leads to a corrupt file. (go figure)

That pissed me off, so I'm going to keep looking and will follow up once (if) I make any progress.

Got the .pdf to save with right-click, 'Save As' AAMVAblablabla.pdf

    Interesting stuff.

I mean, I've had to flash my DL to prove age to a couple cashiers, but I always kept my address covered up and I never let them take the card from me. This is still America, folks - so long as we continue to let it be America... and not 'Amerika' as some would have it.

Edit: here's the link to the .pdf referenced, in case anyone wants to peruse it but can't get the link to work:

Thanks. I was using a laptop that had an old version of Acrobat Reader on it that wasn't up to snuff. I switched to another PC and downloaded the barcode scanning software. It returned the following data:

    Address
    City
    State
    Zipcode
    Driver License Number
    License Expiration Date
    License Issued Date
    Date of Birth
    Sex
    Eye Color

Not sure if that is all or if the software is half-assed. I will download another app to see if I get the same results.

The new licenses they have been issuing (the ones you cant smile in) have had the barcode on the back grow in size about double. I wonder if they have managed to code some biometric data in that bigger and better barcode.

I just hate the fact the state has such a crappy picture of me on file. Ill never get a fair jury if they see that thing! :)
