As of July 1 2011 you are no longer required to have a carry permit to shoot on Wilbur Wright Range. You must transport thw gun in the fashion described in the new law but NO permit to shoot.
CAUTION: you may not wear a holstered handgun on the range.

I know it is that way at wilbur wright and that part of the rules came from atturbury.

Yup, that's definitely how it is at Atterbury - no holstered sidearms. I'm glad they finally changed the law to be more common sense. The law before was not very "user friendly" -- You could buy a gun, but then how did they expect you to get it home (since no permit is required to purchase handgun... then when it was home, how do you practice with it?) I know a permit fixed these problems, and the new law finally makes sense.
Without being able to practice with a firearm, especially one that you may use in self-defense at the home, it's not much better than a scary looking paper weight. That's my 2 bits

I feel like with all of the misunderstanding from law enforcement lately, I would play the safe route instead of risking it.
