I saw one of these today at Bradis for around $225 and it peaked my interest. I want to get a 1911 style pistol, but not ready for a big boy just yet so I figured .22 cal would be a great starter/fun/practice pistol for me. Anybody own one and if so what is the verdict on this one? BTW I did use the search function, but I was unsuccessful.

I don't know that it is "junk", but I think if you are interested in it primarily as a 1911 pattern pistol you might be better served spending another $75 and getting the GSG1911. It's a pretty well constructed pistol, and it more closely duplicates the function (and safeties) of a real 1911 than the Chiappa does. It even shares some parts with the 1911. I haven't shot the Chiappa, but I can recommend the GSG1911.

I saw these too, but I thought they were a lot more than 300 though.

There is a used (20 shots I am told) Citadel .45 in Columbus for $380 too so ammo cost is the only place you really save by getting a .22 over the .45 or 9mm.

The GSG1911 is a tank... I have a verified 10,628 rounds down the pipe, and this little beast keeps ticking like a Timex watch. Now that Spring is here, I will be reviving my thread I started last fall to track my progress to 20K rounds.

I own a Chiappa. It's not the best pistol in the world, and I certainly wouldn't use it to defend myself, but I've found it to be a decent practice pistol for the price. It's accurate and it's dimensions are similar enough to a big boy 1911. It does lack the grip safety of real 1911s and is not very upgradable, but hey, it's a practice gun. I like it because I can train on the 1911 platform at the lower cost. It's finicky with ammo, I've found that CCI mini mags work the best. I have no experience with the GSG1911, and that might be a better option for you. Best of luck in your decision!

I looked at the chiappa one and shook it and it rattles like the old colt 1911 loose as a goose. I would like to get a GSG how much are just the mags by themselves?

Magazines for the GSG run about $30 bucks a pop (give or take a couple bucks depending on tax/shipping/etc). IMO, the mags are a little overpriced, but the I also believe the pistol is worth it.

    .

My girlfriend has had the Chiappa 1911 for a little over a year - so far it's been totally reliable and a true blast to shoot. I'd agree with anyone who says it's not the best "quality" handgun, but we sure have had fun plinking with it.

The GSG mags are expensive, but once you get a look at them you'll begin to understand. All metal, and engineered as well as the pistol. Probably the best made magazine I've ever seen.

I saw a bunch of Pumas and Cheappos at the 1500. They look horrendous and not well built compared to the GSG's. I think Sig is now relabelling them as their own. I saw a couple of those too for about $380ish.

A GSG or Sig 22 is going to be a future purchase for me.

Sig 1911 .22LR | Sig Sauer Guns and Accessories

That Sig just screams GSG. It has the exact same plastic sights, the same arched MSH, and all the mfg markings are exactly the same on the right side of the receiver.

EXACTLY what I was going to say when I seen it! Even the same exact take-down pins/screw/etc. Straight GSG.

For those of you that are looking at the gsg it is a really nice put together 1911 and I own one and they are great. But I have just purchased an even nicer quality piece a colt m1911 .22 and is by far the closest thing to a real 1911 that I have found these are made by walther and imported by umarex they make a standard gi version a rail gun version and are soin releasing the gold cup if you are in the market for a 1911 22 be sure to give these a look.
