On the bright side, L Ron Hubbard proved that with enough effort, even a quintessential "beta male" like he was can get really rich and powerful by using deceit and trickery.

Wait, that's not a bright side.

Elron was a 5¢/word hack pulp science fiction writer back in the late 40s, early 50s. A lot of the good, prominent writers developed their skill and reputations in that milieu. Elron just developed a habit of wordiness that he kept even when it was no longer an advantage. Battlefield Earth and especially Mission Earth are good examples. It's said he wrote about half a million pages.

I laughed when I saw "Civil" and "Scientology" in the same sentence. Check out Operation Clambake

Occult Sex, Rocket Magic & Scientology: The Jack Parsons ? L. Ron Hubbard Explosion - CrimeFeed

You can’t make this crap up Aleister Crowley , Jack Parsons, L. Hubbard.

Hubbard stole Parsons boat and wife then started a religion!

    This dude was a freak!

I mean if he did it I think could raise the church of the Badger!

Heh, Parsons' story should be required reading. An understanding of Parsons and the "science" behind JPL is but a meager beginning to learning what you're voting for when you step into the booth.

To do what Hubbard did, you'd have to understand weakness on a level that is impossible for someone like you to understand. Everything he did was based on recognizing and exploiting the emotional and psychological weaknesses in people that he understood because it comprised the core of his person. He used that to manipulate and intimidate much in the same manner that an abused child learns from their experience how to abused and victimize the next generation.
