I'd throw my TRP's against a colt 1911 all day.... had a couple Colts, an ria (ouch), and a sig. Quality wise, a springer gives a better fit, finish and accuracy for the money. But I can't buy a 1911 without front strap checker anymore. And the TRP trigger from the factory will destroy a colt for the same money. I like colt ar stuff, but 1911 are....eh.

I picked up a Gold Cup a couple years ago. It's a mid 90's I think. It's beautiful in appearance and function. You won't regret it.

Mid 90's is quality is not what they are putting out the door today.
I would like to fondle/shoot a Wiley Clap model. Many are speaking highly of them.

Colts have been very good lately. Kimbers almost never function well unless you have a qualified gunsmith tune the extractor / even the ones from their custom shop. Probably the best 1911 production gun on the market today are the Sigs. I have a 1911 Max, a STX and a Scorpion Carry. I've never had a malfunction in thousands of rounds and their extractors are awesome. As accurate as 3000.00 custom guns.

I had a sig tacops 1911 several years ago, def a shooter but the finish was crap. I should have kept it and cerakoted it in hindsight.

As said up thread, I was really put off by the initial feel of the govt sized Colt I picked up last month but it really cleaned up well with a bit of shooting. The are doing a nice job in the bluing of them and look really good with the plain old walnut double diamonds. I need to pick up a set of Pierce finger groove grips for mine to get past the lack of front strap checkering.

Agree 100% with the nice bluing and double diamonds, it's just a nice look! I have a set of double diamond USMC stocks I am going to swap onto my 1911 as soon as I get it, tribute to my FIL. Going to engrave both mine and his initials on the frame under the stocks.

If you want a good engraver to laser engrave them, contact Indy Laser Engraving. Wendall has done great work on one of my pistols and I would gladly recommend him.

Thanks for the tip on engraving! I picked up a Colt government model, 80 series. Fitment all feels pretty good, smooth, finish is great. Trigger feels smooth and nice to me anyways, I am ready to load up my mags with hardball and let it eat!!!! Here's a teaser anyways :)
