The argument that CPS should not exist is not equivalent to the claim that 'all parents know how to raise their kids'. I thought that a straw-man for a straw-man was a fair trade. Hypocrisy isn't a 'name', it is the proper label for this.

Child neglect and abuse is a problem. Nobody here will claim that it isn't, at least nobody with any sense. The question isn't whether or not it is a real problem. The question is what should be the solution?

Is another government agency the solution? Fortunately, we have some empirical evidence to answer this question. We can simply look at the antics of this agency that already exists and see if it works. It doesn't. Good parents are punished, bad parents are ignored. Most of us probably know families that are proof of this.

Honestly, if the standard of parenting is cleanliness and attentiveness, then half of Kentucky and a whole lot of southern Indiana would not be allowed to raise children. I think that a better solution is to intervene in each others lives. Friends, family, neighbors...look out for the people and children in your realm of influence. The government can not and will not save the world. We need to take responsibility.

    /thread.

I'll go there and say I don't believe this was a righteous call for CPS because there is no justification for an organization that can legally confiscate kids.

Flea problem, cats misusing litterbox, kids eating pop-tarts = state confiscates children. That's the standard?
Check, check, check. And my kid has used his half-eaten pop-tart as a firearm. (No kidding.) I must be a horrible parent. Did I mention I homeschool? My kids must be socially inept.

88GT- Then what would be? Wait until there is an injury or worse? What would you have done if you witnessed this?
I truly am curious what anybody here would have done.

I totally agree that CPS, and govt in general, is too big and usually makes a mess of things. However, for all of you govt haters out there, unless you have been in a home and dealt with and seen some of the conditions that I have personnally witnessed, then you need to shut the F&((*( up. There absolutely is a time and a place for govt, CPS, LEO or whoever to step in and remove children. It is all nice and good to say that "the community, family or some non governmental agency" should step in and do something, but that usually doesnt happen. Do I like going on those kinds of calls? Hell no, I dont. But I am not naive enough or blinded my my hate of authority of any kind to think that CPS should be abolished.

On INGO kids don't have rights and should not be protected unless they are undeveloped fetuses... then they have all rights. Once they take that first breath they then become 100% expendable at the wish of whomever decided to give birth.

INGO is the only place I have ever heard a mother refer to her children as chattel. You have to wonder where they get these ideas.

Sadly, I don't think that's far from the truth, as evidenced by the thread of smoker's who have no qualms about filling their children's lungs with their second-hand poison. And then there's the guy who's avatar indicates if your kids don't quiver and hide when you get home, you haven't beat them enough.

    1. As long as I am paying taxes for this s**t, I have an opinion, am entitled to it, and if you really think you have a right to declare the conversation off limits to anyone, you can go bugger yourself on a fencepost.

    2. CPS should be abolished. There should be no such thing as any agency operating outside the scope of conventional due process given the usurped power to arbitrarily take people's children. Referring back to your statement 'if you had seen the things I have seen', I have seen these worthless MFSBs wreck innocent lives and (the same individuals mind you) ignore problems that are absolutely intolerable. Don't give me that hero worship s**t.

    3. It isn't about hate of authority. It is about not accepting usurped authority that operates outside of any recognizable form of due process. Big difference there genius.

    4. How about a really novel idea like police getting a warrant and acting appropriately in the event that there is probable cause to believe illegal activity is taking place?

She was clearly referring to what she believes the government should view her children as. Not how she views them.

I think it's a little silly to question the love of a mother who has made the choice to spend her life raising her children instead of handing them off to government bureaucrats, and clearly does a heck of a job of it.

It took 2 hours to go down the tubes.

Oh, quit your belly-aching. You opened this thread with a straw-man and got called out for it. This may be a lively discussion, but it's plenty civil for grown ups.

I have heard way to many true stories of CPS snatching up kids and then releasing them back into the same deadly environment they were "Rescued" from. The end result being dead children. They died from neglect/beatings and even hung on closet hooks. That agency is broken. It is mis-managed at best and staffed with so many morons as to assist in its failure.

For what good it has done, most cool. For the failures that "Seem" to out weigh the successes....shame on them.

Go get bent. You can take your "straw man " comments and shove 'em. If you call this a civil conversation then maybe you need to get out more and see how real grown-ups discuss things without snide/ baiting comments like yours. Yeah I'm pissed. I don't like allowing others to push me to this point. Maybe that's why I have under 800 posts instead of over 4000 because I attempt to only engage in intelligent conversations.
