Okay, so it all started as I was driving on the sea side along the coast of Normandy.
I had to stop to take a picture of a bunker who, oddly enough, is halfway on he middle of the road.:dunno:

As I am taking the picture I notice a grey spot (circled in red) maybe 50 yards behind the bunker.

I get closer and clearly see not one, but two big concrete walls sticking out from the wild vegetation.

After walking through the vegetation and getting closer I can clearly see that they are indeed bunkers.

After some climbing I get to the roof ...

There are L shaped stairs going down ...

Lots of vegetation behind, you almost need a machete to go through it.

Finally the main entrance is here!

Not sure if I should try to get inside. :dunno:
    It looks dark and scary.

Halway inside. The light is now only coming from my camera.

It's a fairly large bunker. You can see it has a door at the end, one on the left and two on the right.
One of the heavy steel door is now on the ground.

I dont think this one saw any combat inside. No damage outside either.

Interesting. Maybe it's just me but I have a picture in my mind of that battle and would imagine everything there being bullet riddled, hand grenade fragmented, bombed, or burned out.

They had those all along the coast. I'm sure the defensive line was only penetrated at certain points. Once flanked, they would have to abandon it.
