    The Roman Republic became the Roman empire after nearly 500 years of being a republic in 27 bc.
    thus began the rule of Roman emperors and the fall of Rome.
    Wonder if it was caused by the citizens being unwilling to control the unlawful actions of their representatives?

    Rome transitioned from a republic to an empire after power shifted away from a representative democracy to a centralized imperial authority, with the emperor holding the most power.

    The same that is happening to the USA. They even had the unelected bureaucrat class problem.

    The creators of the constitution understood the history of the Roman Republic and empire. They knew a powerful central state would eventually lead to the fall of a republic. They tried to limit the power it had.
