Why not pass the time with a game of solitaire?
This attitude is part of the problem. Ignorance exists on both ends of the R/D spectrum, and that a person disagrees with you is not indicative thereof.
When discussing firearms with people who are ignorant of the weapons' legal status and/or functionality I do my best to educate. Much past that we quickly reach a point where civility can easily break down, so I don't really pursue it. Some people have their minds made up. Plenty of people here are guilty of the same thing on different issues. The entrenched idea that anyone to the left of the extreme Right is a commie gungrabber is an excellent local example.
