from: Stay and Play on Patoka Lake!Located in the heart of southern Indiana, Patoka Lake offers 26,000 acres of unspoiled beauty combined with 8,800 acres of water wonderland to create the perfect vacation getaway for family fun.
Known for its pure, clean waters, Patoka Lake is famous for its excellent crappie and bass fishing! Bald eagles and osprey abound, as do beavers and game species such as wild turkey, deer and waterfowl. A true sportsman's paradise!
Saw one while working at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center in 2009. It flew right at tree-top level across our formation area, in view for about 6 seconds as it flew by. I also saw a couple flying and one land in a tree west of 65 in the Scott co bottoms this past fall. I saw a nest and a couple fledglings while on vacation down in Texas in 06. The branches in that nest were huge! The size of the nest was about 5 or 6 feet across. I neve imagined it would be that big. It sure seems like nature is coming back all over the state.
Last summer my dad and I took a canoe trip on sugar creek out by turkey run state park and there were a few bald eagles cruising the river down there.
There is one on the South side of Indy. He/she patrols the White River around 465. I've seen that one so many times but always flying and I'm always driving. I think there is a nest near Ft. Ben. I'm planning to watch it this winter when the leaves are down.
Saw them several times at Lake Greenwood...
I love eagles. As a nature photographer I have pursued them for years. Here is one of my favorite photos.
