Back in '03, I woke up to my neighbor pounding on my south Hammond residence door. It was a Sunday morning around 10:00am. I had just returned from a long road trip with my band. We parked our trailer behind our garage in the alley and usually unloaded it first thing when we returned. This is the one time we left gear in it because we had a local gig that evening. Anyway, my neighboor informed me that he witnessed a man cut the lock off the trailer and proceed to load up his escort wagon. My neighboor yelled at the guy and he got in his car and sped off. I had a description of the perp, his car, and a plate number. Apparently this wasn't enough for the Hammond police to persue an investigation (idiots....they screwed me over on several occaisions....this one really burned me) The fortunate thing about the situation, is that the burglar only took two yamaha speakers that were maybe worth $150 a piece. He had to crawl over about $10,000 worth of vintage guitars to get to them. What an idiot. Crappy yamaha speakers are easy to replace, but a '64 tele thinline with a bigsby....no way your findin' that again. I was super close to taking the law into my own hands (had a special friend run the plates), but gained my senses and thought the better of it. Karma is a female dog!

Had a very intoxicated aquaintance barge in one night looking for his ex girlfriend. After we told him she wasn't there he proceeds to get in a fist fight with my roommate and managed to break a door.

I went to retrieve my sidearm while my roommate got him outside and locked the door. This person then starts trying to get back in and wouldn't leave (thank god he didn't remember the back patio door is a large glass one and would be easily smashed).

We had to call the local PD to have him removed. While on the phone with the dispatcher she asked me if I was armed. After informing her I was I was told not to use it and to put it away (needless to say I disregarded her until the LEOs arrived on scene). Once they were there I let them take care of the situation.

WTF is wrong with this scene!

I think I would have told her a few choice things, over the commotion this a--hole was making.:dunno:

It would be interesting to know how many home break-ins/invasions occur in the "country" vs. in town.

yeah, just posted 2 stories that happend to me a further up on this page.

    Here's a link to Eagle_Al's story.

I was 15. Knock on the door. Like everyone else does, I opened the door. Two men with shotguns, one barrel forced into my chest to knock me down. Hands tied behind back, feet tied, pillow case tied over my head. Same scenario for my nephew who is 4 days older than me. He was with me that day. 30 minutes hogtied wondering if they will shoot us on their way out or not.
Ask me if i EVER open the front door now without knowing who is on the other side, or if i dont know who is on the other side, do I have my gun pointed at the door, especially at night. I vowed this will never happen again. My doors stay locked when iam home, day or night.
Other story. I was 14 and spending the night at my dads. Two dudes in their late teens wake me by walking thrue the house and my dad was in his late 60s. I acted like I was asleep until they left. Now I also vowed that if anyone every entered my house at night I will be ready. My gun is never further than arms length when I sleep. It is in a safe that uses your fingers to puse the right combo.
Iam one of the most mellow try to avoid conflict people you will meet, but I dont intend on being a victim.
I learned at a young age that it can happen to me.
    Thanks to all for listening.

    Turning Point for Me

Twice. Once I was robbed while I was away.

Second, Someone I know, a family member, was all tweeked out and mad about something he knew nothing about. Busted down 2 doors with a LOADED 12Gauge in hand. My wife (girlfriend at the time) called 911. I had a little .25 under the mattress. I kept it there, figuring I could calm the situation, since I knew the guy. Wrong answer. He wanted to shoot our dog, who was in our bedrooom and pointed the shotgun at my girlfriend, who was covering the dog. I made a quick choice to try to unload the shotgun, a single shot, instead of going for the .25. I got the shell out and put it in my pocket. When I turned to get the pistol, I was watching him, and he had it pointed at her AGAIN. This time I decided that I would have to physically remove it from him. Not fun, the guy is 6'5" and weighed about 225, solid as a rock. I am not small, but gave up about 2" and 30 pounds to him. I ended up wrestling the gun away from him, and my girlfriend ran it to the other end of the house. He and I continued to struggle until the police arrived, from ten miles away. I was lucky I wasn't seriously hurt, just beaten up a bit. From that day forward I made it known to all family members that no matter who it was, anyone who decided to act that way around me would be given no mercy. I would have pistol ready and shoot on sight. I also got a bigger gun.

The perp did about 2 years, and had to go through an Extensive Alcohol and Drug program through that process. He and I still speak, but now he knows where I stand, and what the consequence will be if he ever comes around me in that state again!!

My car has been broken into - window broken, cd's taken. Then this other time a guy broke into my house. I chased him away with a baseball bat.

I think that covers 3 different options.

Just once, sitting on the couch late one saturday night when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. S.O.B. didn't know I was packing heat. As he ran towards me I dispatched him with a single shot from a ruger .22 revolver. I'm not sure exactly where I hit him but I will say there was mouse goo all over the wall behind him!

When my wife and I lived in Jacksonville, Florida some turd broke into our apartment and stole my little .38 snubby. I still have the ORIGINAL police report in my safe in case anything ever happens with that gun, and that was in 1989. Had someone break into my garage in my current home and stole about $6000 worth of tools. Then about 6 months later, someone broke into our home and stole my DVD player, and like 400 DVD's I had 4 of those 100 DVD folders, so it was easy for them to just pick up the binders and leave with them. That one was funny, because when I filed my insurance claim, the adjuster needed receipts for those 400 DVD's well I had no receipts, he told me I would have to come up with some kind of proof that I owned that many DVD's So I went home and got the storage boxes that I kept all the DVD cases in, and took them all up to him at his office. He told me, that I could go ahead and take them back with me and he would process my claim, I told him Oh no, he wanted proof, well here was the proof, and made him keep all the DVD cases, he was super pissed, because he had to deal with all of them, I was happy because I cleaned up my attic...

Had someone help themselves to the GPS out of my truck in the driveway this spring.

Once, had someone come up my drive and INTO my garage while I was under my Jeep working. He said was in the neighborhood with "special opportunity." I came out from under the Jeep with a BFH in my hand and informed him that there was no soliciting in the neighborhood and pointed out that he had not been invited into my garage.

My favorite has to be the door to door security system saleman who wonders why everyone he talks to is so unfriendly and won't answer questions about their security systems and their satisfaction level. He actually asked me if I had an active celluar backup and then was angry when I just looked at him and told him to leave.

The rest of the time, the large, loud, black dog with big white teeth generally takes care of the rest.

    late night car shopping

I live in the middle of nowhere well maybe closer to the edge of nowhere. I woke up at 2am one morning to find a group (6 or 7) of guys crawling all over a car I had for sale that was parked beside the road . Grabbed my wingmaster and headed out to the front porch. I turned on my flood lights and asked them if they needed any help. Turned out they did uunderstand English well but appearantly the sound of a pump shotgun cambering a shell translates well into any language. They piled into a nearby van and took off. Haven't had any trouble since.:D

Wee hours of the morning...me at work...wife at home on couch asleep except for growling large 120# Search and Rescue trained German Shepherd. Looked up to see male subject attempting to look in front window. Street light outside window...house dark...guess he couldn't see in? She got up and opened front door sent Mr Teeth after him...and now the rest of the story...she heard what she said like a 6-year old girl screaming loudly and then nothing...while she was calling 911...Dog returned with a pocket of a pair of blue jeans and a half ripped pair of boxers and a mouth full of blood! Couldn't find any missing part in the stuff he brought home but someone got the hurt put on them and we never had a visit from them again. Cop scolded my wife for "sending" a vicious animal after the guy said she should have kept door shut and let them do their job...took 10 minutes for them to get on scene? She told him to go **** himself and shut the door in his face like he told her she should have done!

I live on a nature park. Had a prowler on our front porch during the summer. Back in '91. We had just moved in. the windows were open. the prowler stepped on some arrows we had out there and made a racket. I told my wife I thought it was a raccoon but we then heard him move. I ran out the door (no gun) just in time to see him jump off the porch and run into the woods. deputy came out but never got out of his car. the bad guy returned later that night but we never caught him. He left behind a military type flashlight. I called the police but they never bothered to come to fingerprint it. the sheriff heard about the episode through the grapevine and called to apologize.

Another episode about 8 years ago, I found my door partially kicked in. Only the inside trim was bent out but still holding the door.

Had a car doing donuts at night in the parking lot twice. the second time I made it out the door> He fled and I could hear his little 6 screaming for at least a few miles. Not sure if the site of my gun scared him or me in my shorts and no t-shirt.

prolly 8 years ago i was living in merrillville (garyville) on 56th and mass. and worked only a block away, i left for work about 7:50 and returned around 11:30 for lunch to find my door open. i had my sig 239 on my hip and entered ready for whatever i found. unfortunately the perps were long gone, along with about 6k of my personal property including a model 10 s&w and a beretta tomcat .32 that were out in the open (i lived alone, no reason to safe anything). called merrillville pd and made a report, of course nothing happened. i did my own investigating and found several of my items at a local pawn shop, called MPD and the pawn shop was forced to return said items with the detective present and promised full cooperation with video/id info of the persons who pawned the items but after months of calls to MPD and the pawn shop, nobody ever helped me again, wouldn't even return my calls. of course never found the guns, god only knows what damage the new "owners" may have caused :(:(

Wow, i answered a few of those. I live out in the country and run a small farm, nothing fancy just pays the bills. Over the last several years, I have had anhydrous ammonia tanks be attempted to be broken into and stolen from(for meth production) I have our shop broken into on 2 occassions, once while i was in there working, guy ran off. Ive even had a guy walk into my back door after I refused to hire him to paint my barn, heck back in 99, we caught someone trying to steal our golden retriever. This stuff does happen. Each of these times, cops were called. Now these incidents have been spread out, its not like it happens regularly or anything, just every once in while There have been several others too such as kids 4x4ing in the fields, poachers during hunting seasons that seem to be more frequent
