Hello, just wanted to say hi and thanks for letting me in.
Owning (dare I say it) a "sporterized" Arisaka 99 it gets cold and lonely in the Arisaka pages.
In my defense I didn't sporterize it. It was given to me by someone that said you could stand in a room, fire five shots and not hit the same wall twice. And he was right. I found it had been converted to 30-06. So I loaded some 30-06 with .311 bullets and it was fine, except for the crudely mounted aftermarket sights.
I Fired a bunch of high power 30-06 (50,000 to 60,000psi) with no problems.
When I rebarreled to 7.7 Jap, several on an Arisaka page told me I couldn't reload it more than 45,000psi.
So hello, I'm here. I just rebarreled to 7.7, bedded the action, floated the barrel and shut my eyes and fired a round to check headspace. ( Don't say anything I know but I'm old and it doesn't matter anymore. ) Brass checked out very good.
So this is my warning shot..... Beware and thanks.
Nice opening Salvo. You'll do fine. Just read the rules.
    Welcome from Beanblossom.

I really like the type 99 Arisaka.
Mine has a nice shiney bore, but the outside looks like it has been through at least 3 world wars.
This poor thing has been beat all to hell but still fires to point of aim.
I still have the anti-aircraft sights but no mono-pod or dust cover.
Mine also still has an unmolested and intact mum and no import marks.

My only complaint is the price/availability of ammo.

    O.p. welcome to Ingo
    Why I reload.

    Welcome to the group.

Here’s your warning shot from me. If you participate in the forums you are going to start needing guns that you didn’t know you needed before joining. The next step is the classifieds here and these guys will tell you where to find gun shops, shows, flea markets etc. INGO is a gateway drug to total gun addiction..

Run while you have a chance… never ask for therapy to not buy a gun.

To late.. just gave my tactical 12 gauge pump and tactical AR-15 (built from scratch) as well as a model 27 Glock to my son. Kept the 113 year old 12 gauge coach gun, just made a violin case into a gun case for it and my Arisaka 99 (about to scope it) also my Diamond Back 380.
Yeah.. done been hooked. But thanks

I have dies for 7.7x58 Jap.
I haven't loaded any yet. I'm still working through the first 200 rounds of Nambu ammo I bought when I first got the rifle.
Cool . If you're new to reloading start at lowest loads and work up. Check twice then check again. If you already reload... Have fun.
Good thing about 7.7 Jap Arisaka was the strongest bolt action in WWll. Hard to blow them up. But not impossible.
Bad thing us it's the only gun in the world that fires 7.7 x58. They don't make a lit of ammo for it.

Welcome from Highland. Jeez, now I remember the first time I fired a milsurp as a younger me. It was an Enfield MKI III that I still
have. I loaded a round, layed it on the shooting bench pointing down range and ducked under the bench. I had my right arm up over the bench to hold the gun and pull the trigger.
