"No, thank you!" and continue with checkout, pay, and go home.

If he continues to press, "Okay, you may help me carry my bags, but it would it would be inappropriate for me to tip you."

Pretty much, this. Though I'm not sure I would have exhibited quite this much wit.

    Securitas: "Show me your papers!"

    Me: "No, thank you."

    Securitas: "Respect my authoritay!"

Me: [ignores Securitas. Continues checking out.]

Securitas: "Excuse me?!? How dare you ignore me."

Me: "Do you mind? I'm trying to finish my business here."

The one that confronted me went as far as to say, "If I wanted, I could take that from you until the cops arrive."

Then he went on an anti-OC rant.

I'm pretty sure that constitutes a threat of unlawful use of physical force.

The problem is, I can't honestly say that I believe that he would or could make *good* on that threat, so I couldn't honestly claim that I was in any mortal fear.

Annoyed. Perhaps bemused. But certainly not in any real fear.

I've run into that with the Wannabe tribe at Krogers. They have a new one on Madison that followed me around last week. It got a bit ridiculous after 4 or 5 aisles.
When I checked out he was standing at the door and I politely told him I appreciated him not grabbing my penis.

CC and it never would have happened, but in all fairness, I would have just said No!
I commend you for your resolving the issue the best you could.

    No.

Wasn't there a court case recently that affirmed that simply carrying wasn't grounds to produce a LTCH?

And as was said earlier, the Law no longer requires you to even have it on your person.

Does a Kroger security guard have the legal right to ask you to produce an LTCH?
They have the legal authority to ask. Just like anyone else.

There is no legal obligation to comply.

    (Dealing with police is different.)

    No.

That case is still pending in the Indiana Supreme Court. So, we don't have a full answer to the "police asking for it" question. Generally, best practice when dealing with police is to comply with their requests, to the extent possible.

If the officer is "wrong" it can be dealt with later.

    .
Right to ask? Sure. Anyone can ask you pretty much anything.

Are you required to produce it? No. You aren't even required to produce it for Law Enforcement. IC changed a while back. You are required to BE licensed, not to keep the license on your person. (Note: I am simply referencing IC, not making a recommendation). Kinda like doctors must BE licensed, but don't have to carry their license around to do their doctorin'.

As an agent of their employer, security guards can not like your answer and start down the path to Trespass (tell you to leave). I suppose they could also attempt to detain you. But, as you are not breaking any laws, nor are you breaking (in this case) any store policies, that may not end as they expect.

I used to work store security in 2000. I never once bothered an OC'er. I figured if they were OC, they most likely had an LTCH. The only time I even interacted with an OC'er was just to talk guns.

Well, very amusing thoughts. Wonder what Mister Seecurity Guard would think if someone walked in with a pistol gripped Shot gun in a scabbard?
