    Maybe it was a publicity stunt to land sponsorship...

    Meh, either way, I won’t lose any sleep over it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not happy because the guy died, and I suppose it IS a wee bit sad that his passion killed him, but that’s the nature of the beast when you play with rockets, or ANYTHING that leaves the ground.

    Eratosthenes (276-195 BC) calculated the circumference of the earth to within 0.4% (a little to high due to some inaccuracies in his measurements, but within 98-140miles).

    Around 830 AD a group of Muslim astronomers calculated the circumference to be 24,000 miles (again, pretty close for what they had to work with).

    And yet some would have us believe that some still think the Earth is flat. Amazing.
