    WOW, Didn't know we had some anti-family members here

    I'm not anti family at all. I'm just anti "use the government to force my employer to retain me". We all like to talk about how government is too bigbut all too quick to call on them when it benefits us.

    Let the market dictate this. If aflac loses valuable employees and customers due to this, they might change their policies.

    As I understand this through my training, pregnancy is considered a medical condition just like cancer or diabetes. With STD, LTD, and any other acronyms they can throw at us, u cannot fire due to pregnancy. If they want to fire someone for poor performance, let them. Employer better have a paper trail documenting this. Also need to show where training has been implemented and results of the training. In Indiana the 90 day introductory periods where u could terminate them because u don't like them are gone.

    I'd say call the lawyer, u will need the insurance and income. And when they retaliate against the husband then they are going to have a second suit. I'm not sue happy, but I believe in taking care of your employees and doing what is right. There are a few exceptions where women sign on and sign paperwork about pregnancy but, I doubt this is one of them. Exotic dance clubs are the first one that come to mind.

    i think all women except (unmarried/single/widowed) nurses, schoolmarms, secretaries and such should stay home full time with their children. have her enjoy her child.

    Yeah, that makes sense! Sit on your ass for two years just because you are not re-hired. What's wrong with going out and get another job?

    you can get it. the man can take maternity leave just as a woman can, and just like the woman you dont get paid.

    No, I'd like to go on a motorcycle trip or something. A loa for personal business is a loa for personal business, right?

    If some had their way, maternity leave for women would be paid.

    wow...In Austria, with the 90% socialist system they have, Maternity is serious business. You get paid ~$500/month to stay home from your job with your kid for the first 2 years and then you get another ~$150/mo for any additional kids, and you can collect that up until the youngest one enters school. Basically being a stay at home mom is a paid position with the federal gov't of Austria.

    oh, BTW, the women aren't allowed to work for 6mo after having a baby. She and her company can get fined on the order of ~$4000 each if she goes back to work. And the fathers can take 8 weeks of paternity leave.

    if it weren't for the 60% income tax and 20% sales tax and $12/gallon gas, it'd be a nice system. And the lack of the second amendment.

    I guess the only catch is your wife actually has to have a baby for you to qualify! lol

    No, I'm done in that department.

    I just don't get the entitlement mentality in this. I believe aflac should have every right to do this. I also believe that any employee who thinks their emloyers policies regarding maternity is unfair are free to seek employment elsewhere. I also believe that customers who disagree with their maternity policies are free to shop elsewhere. Why must we cry to government to save us from every perceived evil?

    Where should we draw the line here? Should employers have to put baby cribs in the mothers work areas? Some want motherhood and a career. Many times, they are not compatible.

    My wife stayed home. It's a choice we made and we had to make many sacrifices to do so. We didn't expect everyone else to sacrifice for our convienence.

    The government shouldn't have any business getting involved in human resources policies of businesses. On the other hand, if it were my wife in that situation, I'd have a friend take out a full page ad in a national newspaper and lay out the anti-family bias of a company that supposedly exists to provide supplemental aid to families. Then I'd call every radio talk show I could get to and say the same thing. Businesses exist to make a profit, but if they can't/won't keep good people, they'll not be able to compete against other companies whose policies tend to keep their good people.

    The principle of Government meddling in labor can be argued, but the fact remains that the Federal Government has intervened in labor affairs for over a century. If it can be proven that she was terminated for becoming pregnant, then that is illegal under Federal law.
