Yes, partially true. Inflation affects everything, but some prices have gone up a lot more than others in the past 10 years.

Shipping is so high now it makes no sense to buy or sell low-priced goods. When I buy something cheap on ebay, the shipping cost is more than the item. This is the reason I buy a lot of cheap things from China. The shipping is really low, because it's based on yuan at the source, and not dollars at the destination. You can ship from China to Indiana far cheaper than shipping from Indiana to Indiana.

IINM shipping from China is cheap because the government subsidizes rates for domestic producers/shippers. Rates for private persons are high (at least when I lived there they were).

Makes sense. I just know that if I'm looking to buy a $4 item, it'll often cost $5 to ship from the US (making it not worth purchasing) or < $1 to ship from China (which is worth the delay.)
