Been to LBL. Totally different vibe all the way around. I guess it depends on what kind of person you are. If you are born and bred Midwestern, go north. If you have a little "southern" in you, you may like LBL.

Me, I like the clear waters of Michigan over the muddy waters of KY. And I like the sand over the silt.

You won't find fine restaurants and pristine beaches at LBL. You will find good fishing though.

Michigan City, In. Straight up North on US 421.
Exit 34B off of US 94.
Just keep going North on 421 into Franklyn St.
At the end turn right one block and turn left follow to beach, follow right hand lane and over the bridge .
From here you can take US 12 West along the lake shore.
From US 12 you have access to Indiana Dunes National Park.
Now out of city visitors have to pay More than $5 but less than $10 a car load. Same at INDNP.
But that less than anywhere along the lake shore Ind and Mich.
A lot of Motels to choose from and a few Hotels. They all have a lot of information for you.
Many great restaurants all the way up through the city.

Land Between the Lakes is camping country.
You need to stay on the outside of the lakes near major roads and towns.
If you have Google maps on your cell phone you can explore all around the lakes with it.
