Aerial combat has changed so much so quickly. To think 20 years earlier they were flying canvas planes and twenty years after they were flying supersonic jets.
20 years earlier?
What do you think the Hawker Hurricane was made out of?
IT was the plane that won the Battle of Britain.
I'm going to disagree with you there, the English Channel and the location of Luftwaffe landing strips are what saved Britain more than any one plane or tactic.
Rumor has it that a half dozen or so completed P-47 Thunderbolts were buried somewhere near the Evansville plant when the contract was cancelled at the end of WWII.
They made stuff to last back in those days! World War II was an innovative time, lots of good tech came out of it. Neat story! It's sad how the English aren't allowed to own guns, back in the 40's they had some good ones!
That is awesome, What was the documentray on pbs about the war-bird they found and then repaired it at the crash site , Then tried to fly it back and it crashed and burned at takeoff. Anty body remember what im talking about?
