Hi everyone. I've joined INgunowners because I believe that every citizen of every country should have the right to keep and bear arms. Unfortunately, here in the UK the government feels it has the right to strip it's people of the right to own the correct tools to protect themselves. I don't agree, but I do abide by our laws as the penalties are rather stiff if you don't. The last time a firearm certificate was issued in the UK for the reason of defence was 1953, unless your a politition or a member of the Royal family!! Not right in my mind.
The reason for joining a gunowners forum for the Indiana community is that a branch of my family settled in Franklin County in the early 1800's. They settled in the Mount Carmel area of Franklin County, they were farmers.
One of my relatives, James Bertenshaw left some rather interesting letters from his days as a pioneer. Unfortunately his life was short due to his travels.

Here are his letters home to his wife. I'm sure you'll enjoy them.

Hey thanks everyone. I've been google earthing where you all live. I'm trying to build up a picture in my mind where old James used to live.

Hello Martin, are you near Mt Carmel? My wife and I have been looking at buying a little house near Brookville, it's very early days, but once we've got a few loans out of the way I may buy a place to come out to visit when I'm off work. I'd love to have a place to keep my guns and a proper truck. Petrol (gas) is $10 a gallon here so we are taxed into driving small engined vehicles. My motto is "there is no replacement for displacement" SO THE SITUATION DOESN'T SUIT ME 8>)
    Thanks for the welcome .
