I think we should welcome these questions and offer to stand up against politicians who would even consider such a thing, rather than conveying the attitude, “sucks for you if you didn’t stick up already”. Some people are waking up. Those who are well-prepared shouldn’t sit by and expect to be “grandfathered”. We should not compromise one bit, for our individual rights as well as the people who come after.

This will give individuals who now possess assault weapons or high-capacity magazines two options: sell the weapons to the government, or register them under the National Firearms Act.

And this pretty much captures the "plan"... the ability to track who has the weapons and (of course) tax them. It's not about stopping crime. Most of the public tends to forget that criminals are typically criminals because they've been known not to follow laws.

The resellers are selling NOW for more than a future tax would likely be.

Does everyone know we have been paying a federal tax since 1937 of 10-11 percent of the wholesale price on handguns, long guns and ammunition? Pitman-Robertson Act.... It goes for good things, but its still a tax.

What precedent will be used over our history to do that?

Democrats only care about precedent when it suits them lol. Actually though the last iteration of their 'assault weapons' ban for 2019 does offer a grandfather clause but based on what Brians Surplus posted about the biden plan who knows what they would actually do. I found it interesting in the bill a pistol with a threaded barrel becomes an 'assault weapon', if I read that right.

    • Reduce stockpiling of weapons. In order to reduce the stockpiling of firearms, Biden supports legislation restricting the number of firearms an individual may purchase per month to one."

would that one purchase per month be mandatory, asking for a friend

    Don't rat me out! :)

I only wish I could buy 1 per month.

If Harris is president, we will have a lot more problems than just mag capacity.

Ten round mags will be no big deal, when they tax all ammo out of existence.

Much better to concentrate on not letting Harris get elected.

I completely agree there. I’m just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are if we are not successful in keeping our country from falling to socialism

a good ground game, door-knocking, good-faith efforts to bring people into the fold, intellectual honesty, a focus on local politics, etc. It's the same playbook no matter who you are. The libertarian party would probably be way more formidable and successful if they didn't pour all their money into a presidential candidate every 4 years that goes nowhere but instead invests it in local races.

The NFA angle on banning “assault weapons” is the angle that seems different this time around. To the uneducated, it sounds reasonable. They can claim that they are not taking anything away but just treating it as it they think it should be treated. Anyone with a weapon that’s been banned can still keep them, but you have to have background checks and pay a tax for them if you do. Then, they will require us to jump through hoops to transfer them or actually use them.

The worst angle on it is the fact that if you don’t register them, they would become like any other unregistered NFA item and be contraband. They need to be stopped, but that’s not why I started this thread.

I was mainly looking to hear from anyone that’s taken a different tack than normal ‘just in case’. Or, if we find ourselves living in a 10 round world, do you change those 10 rounds to something different?

I think your standard rules still apply: carry what you shoot best. Someone who's great at recoil control and shot placement w/ a 9 is probably not better served by going to a 40 just because it's bigger.

I also think in this broad discussion on regulations, SCOTUS is gonna play a huge role with a 6-3 conservative majority and that may be a big limiting factor on ambitions for passing new gun control laws.
