I have noticed that there are a lot of "im building my first AR" or "tell me about the AR" threads in the past month or so. I am curious how comfortable with the AR platform INGO is as a whole. I am going to attempt a poll. Feel free to post pictures of your AR or just answer in your post.

I fall into the "its my go to rifle and I know every nook and cranny" category. I built it from a stripped lower into the full rifle. Nothing was pre-built on the rifle. I have a couple thousand rounds through the rifle, but it changes configurations often.

    My submission for gun pron.

I carried the M-16/M-4 for over 12 years. In all those years in the service. I never apperciated the true awesomeness of that weapon until I got out and wanted to build my own. (still in progress) I started by building the lower and putting it together. Its truly a simply machine. I ve mounted a .22 upper on it for now. Also now that I have time to myself with out standing out at Atterbury where it rains or the sun beats down on you, or you have Pvts flagging the whole firing line. For me its a whole new relationship. Maybe the best way is that rifle went from girlfriend status to I m married to it now. :D

    I voted Very familiar.

I first began shooting ARs in '08, bought my first 16" carbine in '09, and started my first SBR project this year.

I'm more familiar with the AR family-of-weapons than any other rifle platform. I've taken one carbine course and train with a local group of guys when time permits.

Although I would certainly be comfortable with it being my "go-to gun", I didn't vote that way simply because my current evolution is ever-changing as I find what works and what doesn't. I'm not to the point where I've settled on any one piece of gear or TTP. I'm still developing my preferred shooting style and technique and enjoy learning what others have to teach in that area.

I'm fairly new to the platform having only purchased my AR 2 years ago, but in that time I have changed out nearly everything but the lower receiver. I've stripped it down to the receivers, swapped barrels, explored the trigger group. I am narrow focused with my AR as I don't have any experience with anything other than 5.56 and no experience with the long barrel varmint/target variants that have gotten popular.

Great looking rifles guys. My build started as a 16 inch CMMG upper and an EOtech. That morphed into a 10.5 inch MK18 clone because thats what I carried for a period of time in Iraq. I was very comfortable with that setup. It now is a 12 inch Larue Stealth upper that I built into a BCM "Kino" style upper. The Kino is a 12 inch barrel with a carbine gas system and a pinned front sight base at the midlength spot. It is effectively a "dissipator" upper. It now wears an Aimpoint CompM2 because that is what I have the most trigger time with. Here is a picture of the latest evolution of my go to rifle with a MK18 upper receiver for size comparison. (disregard the hobbit foot. I have posted this picture before and it got more attention then the rifle)

Built all 3 of mine from scratch, and know them inside and out. I'd feel very comfortable with any of them as my go-to's, but my M&P15 is what I've got the most rounds through, and that I've taken to a few carbine courses.

I'm a bit like esrice though...still trying to find the optimum set up. Thinking of trying to cut a little weight from this. The extened rail, rail covers, afg, light, etc. make it pretty front heavy.

I'm really not a fan of the AR platform. That said it is kind of fun to shoot. I would much rather take one shot COM from several hundred yards. That is more satisfying to me. Although there is a calming feeling with the occasional mag dump.

I have shot them for a while now, my brothe rhas had them for years. I just recently built my first one from scratch so that brings the total up to two and counting. They are very addictive all ready hoarding parts for the next one.

    And the AR porn

Yes, of course you are right. I have plenty of bolt guns and one of them is my first choice while watching TV. I like working the bolt and getting the dry fire shot off before the image fades away on the screen. It is calming to work the bolt on a rifle hundreds of times in an evening. My favorite is an old Remington 721 chambered in 270. Silky smooth with a great trigger.

I wonder if anyone reading this thinks I am weird. Oh well...Lets just keep this a secret between us.

But from a practical field standpoint, the AR platform will easily do the job of any bolt gun. And that has become a reality with the development of the AR10 platform in addition to the AR15.

It's my go to rifle, but my only other rifle is a .22.:):

I built the lower and bought a complete upper. Everything on it is Palmetto State Armory and Magpul.:yesway:

Very true, with the armed forces now using the SASS system the AR10 platform has come into its own.

I got my third award bar for my expert badge while in the Marines. That was with the A1 version. I did own two Bushmaster AR's, but due to Obamanomics, I had to part with them a couple of years ago, along with some others, to take care of the family. I miss them.

Been shooting the AR-15 FOW for about 13 years now, including more than 100 hours of carbine-specific professional instruction. I've been an armorer since 2005, and I own 6 AR-pattern rifles, all of which I built myself. I have also built and repaired numerous rifles for friends and customers.

Why wasn't there a "live, eat and breathe them" option in the poll? ;)

Own one. Bought my first AR a few months ago. I can break it down and clean it and do basic maintenance, but I am still learning about the AR platform. I can't say it is my favorite platform, but I will never get rid of it. I will always have at least one AR in the safe.

I don't think that's weird at all. I almost always have a rifle project laying on my coffee table that I work on or mess with while watching the boob tube.
