    3. 2 for handguns (9mm and 45acp) and .223/5.56 for the AR. I've gone out of my way to not pick up any other calibers as keeping up with these three has been challenging enough.

Never thought I had seven different calibers until I actually looked for that purpose. Really only shoot the first two often.

I used to be all over the board as far as different calibers. Currently, even though I increased the number of guns I own, I have narrowed my calibers down to 2 pistol (9mm, .45acp) and 2 rifle (5.56, .22). Life is so much more simple now. :)

    Right now, for pistols it's:
    .22lr
    .22mag
    .32 S&W
    7.62 Nagant
    .380
    .357/38 Spl
    9mm
    .40 S&W
    10mm
    .45 ACP

    In Rifles:
    .22lr/s
    6.5mm Swede
    7.62x39
    7.62x54R
    7.5 Swiss
    8.0 Mauser
    .30 M1 Carbine
    .308 Win
    .223/5.56

My plan is to be the guy that buys that last box of 6.5 Swede or 7.5 Swiss that exists at the gun shop during the zombie invasion. I may have to buy an Arisaka so I can use that ammo if there's some on the shelf somewhere too.

I'm the same way, I will be able to use just about anything I happen to scrounge up. FWIW, Plainfield Shooter's Supply had a box of Norma 6.5 Jap on the shelf the last time I was in there.

I have purposely decided to limit my future firearms purchase to calibers I already have. Don't need to stockpile another caliber. Of course I say that and look at the list of firearms I would like and it doesn't hold true. What to do, what to do!!!

For a gun you don't plan on shooting a lot, you can stock around 100 rounds of factory ammo just for peace of mind and then 40 or 50 cases for repeated reloading for your plinking with it. If you are going to shoot it a lot, reloading is by far the best answer. I stockpile factory ammo once I verify a type(s) that my gun likes and then start working on a cost effective reload recipe that works well. Future factory ammo gets stockpiled and the reloads get shot over and over again. By approaching it in this way, it doesn't break the bank and you learn your gun inside and out. You will discover which guns are gems and which are duds.
