I think a gun going off in a confined space like that would cause more distortion in the mic. Maybe not I don't typically shoot guns in the house. I did try to throw an m80 out the bathroom window once and missed and that was real loud.

I've shot a .22 in a basement shooting range before and earplugs alone quieted it to about a .22 outside with no protection. It would be load as hell to shoot a center fire round in a confined space.
