Some car salesmen enjoy it greatly and do pretty well. I didn't enjoy it and would not have had a decent future in it. For me, it was most definitely "upward".
Not all colleges are propaganda mills. I never signed on to that notion...they're only mostly dead (to quote Miracle Max).
