Where this goes wrong is the binary thinking that the Republican governors of Maryland etc. would even be thought of as Republicans in Indiana. Same in reverse for Dem states, the Michigan governor would likely never cut it in Maryland.

It would be tempting to say that the era of divided government is over, except for the fact that governors, at least, are able to carve out personal profiles that sometimes allow them to cut against the partisan grain of their states. Popular Republican governors were reelected last year in otherwise blue states including Maryland, Massachusetts and Vermont, while Democrats took back governorships in states that supported Donald Trump in 2016 such as Kansas, Michigan and Wisconsin.

If an individual is running as a Democrat, then I expect he/she approves of Democrat policies up to and including the utter destruction of our country. Therefore, to a conservative American, they are the enemy and should not be in a position to pursue their anti-American agenda. I will always vote against the anti-American candidate.

Bolded part is where you make a really deep assumption.

Parties are not groupthink masses that only follow one ideology. Just as there are plenty of ideas on the "right", many that even clash with each other... there are people on the "left" also trying to weed out the extremes. None of this is black and white.

Well, it seems black and white. All my life I've watched Dems screw things up, dumb down America in schools, raise taxes endlessly, push laws and regulations to limit my freedom. OK, maybe they think they will make things better. But who gets to pay for it? Us boobs who work and support our families, pay our taxes, obey the law. For decades it has been clear to me that the Dems want a socialist America. Now, thanks to Trump, they are finally being honest about their intentions. I don't believe in abortion, high taxes (so called "Fair Share") By the way, who gets to decide what "Fair Share" is? I believe in a strong military. What party has forever been against defense spending? On 2A, its my litmus test. If a pol is anti gun, it tells me all I need to know about them.

Is the GOP perfect? Of course not, far from it. Sadly it is our last hope against tyranny and we need to take the RINO's to task. I know I'm rambling, but look at any of the Dem POTUS candidates. Would you want to have a beer with any of them? Could you stand to be in the same room with any of them? I'll go take my meds now.
