I was watching Gun Stories on the Outdoor Channel the other night, an episode profiling the Glock.

One of the authors being interviewed said:

"If you treat your guns like you treat your lawnmower, get a Glock."

    I appreciated that.

LOL, I do too! I wish the TroyBilt I bought at Lowe's when we built our house had ANY of the characteristics of my G17. My new shaft drive Cub Cadet on the other hand does.

    Right here.
Forced to choose only one it would be my AR. It would provide for food, self defense, and yet be able to reach out at distance for long range SD.

My Marlin 336, the classic assault rifle of old days, put meat on the table and can be used for defense, and any member of my family can shoot it because it's easy to work with.

you guys will think im crazy but the m44 mosin nagant of all the rifles i own or ever got to play with (with is alot) my m44 would be my first choice in a shtf event.... its short, powerful, easy to handle, respectfully accurate, great take down power, and light weight..... plus its got a nasty back up piece built in...... and nothing beats a bolt action in the lines of reliability
