@jsharmon7 So you are implying how meaningless the legality debate is because of your perception of the climate in this section??!! Really? The thief is already in your house... he must be innocent since he's inside the house.

@kutnupe14 I see, you are apparently trying to make me out to be a racist. I NEVER said Mexican, I said illegal... wherever they come from. They have NO RIGHT to be here. This isn't the 1800s and this isn't the wild west. We own it now... no matter what you may believe.

You are pointless. Attempting to smugly spout that you aren't going to give me an economics lesson and it's laughable that you somehow feel superior enough to assert that you would need to. Who the hell are you to be giving anyone lessons? Put away your internets genius diploma, it means nothing to me.

Here's a simple economics lesson for you... 10 people apply for the same job opening, how much will it pay? Only 1 person applies for same job, how much will it pay? Load the job market with potential employees and the value of ALL employees will drop. The illegals in this country only contribute to the devaluation of every American worker!

Let me guess.... both of you guys have a friend (or work with someone) that's here illegally and you think they are a great person.

Firstly, one can't be racist against a Mexican given that's not a race, but a nationality. Secondly, who are we kidding here? When people speak of "illegals," they're not talking about Canadians, of which there is a sizable illegal amount.

As for my economics "lesson," I'm not being smug. I told you how your idea of "sending them all packing" is economic suicide. You can bear witness to that fact or not, but that does not change the fallacy of your thought.

Your 10 on 1 parable, though rooted in solid logic, is off base in terms of it's application in reality. Illegal immigrants don't drive down salaries based on sheer numbers, they drive down salaries based on a sub-par standard of living. Illegal aliens do the jobs that Americans won't do for a crappy wage, not because they've flooed the market with their numbers.

Look at it this way, if all the illegal aliens left their jobs vacant tomorrow. There wouldnt be a line of Americans knocking on the employers doors looking to take those jobs at the wage given to the illegals. The market value of that job will have increased. Americans would demand a higher wage to maintain their expected standard of living.
THIS is why it would be economic hari kari to have, what you proposed, come to pass. Those business would either have to seriously slow production or close up shop. In both cases the economy loses.

I don't know a single illegal immigrant, persoally, though I do come into contact with them regularly. Trust me whenI say I dislike illegal immigration, as much, if not more than you do. The issue is handling the problem without being so hasty. This is not a problem that can be solved simply by sending them all back. There will be reprecussion which will have long lasting negative effects it this problem isn't handled correctly. How is it to be done, well that's above my pay grade. However, putting on a bus/plane/boat and sending them all back tomorrow, most certainly, isn't the solution.

If I was to make a suggestion though, I first start by changing the 14th Amendment to address citizenship requirement. Next, I'd probably start aggressively prosecuting employers, and finally I'd have Posse Comitatus modified to allow the military to have an expanded role on the border.

    I agree with you.
Im just curious about what you would change on citizenship requirement.
Do you mean make it harder to get the UC citizenship or make it easier?
I guess if you make it easier to get would reduce illegal immigration as more would become legal and pay taxes and such.
As a non US citizen I know that the US citizenship is hard to get and almost impossible if you entered illegaly in the country like most of illegal aliens did.

I'd make it harder... much harder. I don't like the idea of anyone simply being born here given automatic citizenship. I would solidify English as the national language, requiring that all legally binding documents/contracts be written in it. Those wishing to become citizens must prove their value to the nation, no more boat peoples "fleeing oppression in their native lands." Hell we we're oppressed, and we shook the yoke.... let them do the same.
Education would be a KEY requirement, no dummies need apply. And citizenship would be conditional (for "new" or "wannabe" Americans only). Something along the lines of you got 5 years, during that time they would be afforded all the rights extended to Americans, except the 2nd Amendment. If during that time they commit a felony or misdemeanor violent act, they are expelled and their conditional citizenship revoked.

I'm a bit radical in my thoughts, I know, but if citizenship means that much to them.... they'll willingly abide by it.

This is keeping in mind that many Americans of foreign descent had a much hard time in becming Americans themselves.

Yeah I see how its radical and I know what you mean.
Being born in the US is the only way to get the citizenship easily, belive me.
But I can tell you that its already hard as it is right now.
Education is already a key requirement, you have interviews in english and english tests. It's a very long process if you do everything by the book.
To be a legal immigrant, not even a citizen you need to have a good education and speak good english.
The first time I ever came to the US I was already fluent in english and I studied american literature and american history in college.
I know that because I have been to the INS to ask how could I become a US citizen (just by curiosity, I dont really need to do that for now but I thought about it because I love that country and im maybe more patriot than some americans I know).Well it would take me 3 or 4 years to get it.
I dont think that I would be the "threat" that some people see if I ever become a US citizen.
I dont do that to get any help for the government.I already have a free healthcare in my home country and more social benefits that what I would get as a US citizen.

The things that you are talking about are already there.
You are talking about "citizenship being conditional for 5 years".
It's already like that in a way.In order to get the citizenship I would have to be a permanent resident for 3 to 5 years.During that time if I do anything illegal they could take my permanent resident status away from me.Only after those 3 or 5 years I could apply for the US citizenship. Then I would have an interview and I wouldnt even sure to get it the citizenship.
Also you dont need to be a citizen to have your 2nd Amendment right, as a permament resident you have the same right and I think its a good thing.
If I have to wait 5 years to get that right how im I going to defend myself and my family?
I should just live in the fear of criminals and ILLEGAL aliens who buy ILLEGAL guns in the street while I am here LEGALLY and paying taxes like US citizens? That doesnt look right to me.

I'm well aware of the things you stated. I'm speaking in addition to the provisions already in place.
You should be a full fledged citizen in order to bear arms in the nation. I completely understand you point, and I sympathize with it, but non-American citizens, permanent resident or not, should not be afforded that right. The simplest reason I can explain, is that their allegiance hasnt been proven.

In order to have the right to bear arms as a non US citizen you have to be a legal permanent resident. As such you entered legally in the country, you never comitted any crime and did anything illegal in he country, you pay taxes, you went thru a criminal background check both in the US and in your home country and you showed that you master the english language.
I think that's going thru lots of things and im glad therefore you have the right to bear arms as a non-US citizen.

Your "american for american" made me think that maybe in your mind non-US citizen are a threat to the economy just like illegal immigrants are.
In this case you may hurt my feelings but otherwise its fine. :D

to reveal a lil more about myself, I am a staunch isolationist, that believes in an 80/20 Capitalist/Socialist society (and so help me if anyone says anything about my using the word "socialist"). I view illegal immigrants as a threat to American society AND, to a degree, I view legal aliens, at least in the numbers we allow to live here, as a threat too.

Our public universities educate far too many foreign students, we allow the adoption of far too many foreign children, we spend way too much feeding and caring for persons that don't have the interests of the United States of America in mind. As long as American mouths go without, it's hard to justify sending even a grain of rice anywhere else in the world.

Now, as I've stated earlier, I understand more intimately than you know the "whys" and "hows" surrounding this issue, and I truly sympathize. However, it is not the job of the United States govt to support every "hard luck case" country with my tax dollars. Americans are one of the most charitable peoples on the planet. If other places need help, let the individual American decide what they want to donate from their own pocket.

I agree with the above, we need to stop sending foreign aid to every nation that has a sob story.
If they cannot support themselves let them STARVE!!!!
We have OUR OWN people starving HERE right now, lets help them first if they need it.

Let's only lookout for what is in OUR best interest as a Sovereign Nation.

However, I think the original point is what is the impact of people here ILLEGALLY.
My question is, if they are sneaking over the border(North, South,East or West)what do they have to be afraid of?
MY personal problem is w/Non English Speaking MFers. If you are gonna live here, learn the language! If I was gonna live overseas somewhere, I Would learn the language, not expect you to learn mine or expect the Host country to accomodate me.
Also I expect them to support this country by not flying their Foreign flags and saying how much better their home country was compared to here. If it is so great GO BACK!! Otherwise support your new home.
When the Aztlanders(sp) torn down the US Flag and flew the Mexican flags all over Cali and other SW States, it really burned my A$$.

These are my opinions and I make no opologies if I offend anyone.

I do not judge anyone by their Race, I judge by their actions.

Minorities are Minorities only because they make themselves that way by expecting special considerations and treatments for their skin color or heritage.

The best examples I have seen are the Hispanics and the Afro-Americans.
They are the most vocal about how they "deserve" special treatment because their ancestors were oppressed and they should be compensated.

Do you hear the American Indians cry for special treatment???
They were treated worst than any other, we brought them close to extinction by taking away everything they had, yet they asked for nothing. They worked and fought for everything they have now.
    They have PRIDE!!!!!

    Where are theirs????

Wow I would like to know how you can see ME (a legal alien) as a threat for that country.:dunno:
I am truly chocked and hurt to hear that!

Let me tell you a bit about myself and then tell me again that im a threat for that country.
All I do is spend my money into the american economy.
When I live in the US I spend thousands of dollars in rent, in taxes with all the goods I buy.I do not work in the US, you cannot say that I "steal american job" or some other crap.I just spend my money here.
I dont use any social services and dont get any money or any kind of help from the US government.
I have a free health care in my home country and lots of social advantages, far more than what a US citizenship could even provide me.
Once in the US or even while abroad I always defend the 2nd amendment of the US constitution and all the others.
Oh and like every threat to this country I always celebrate american holydays and fallen american heros with my american friends even when im abroad.

I feel like an american patriot even if im not myself american. That doesnt mean I cant deffend that country.

I do more for that country and its citizens than this country is doing for me.
Why im I living in this country then? Because I love it and everything for which it stands.I love the american people and have lots of american friends.Like you can see I am fluent in english who's not my native language and that's only for one reason, I always have been in love with that country and its people and studied its language and history even before I came here for the first time.

Now if you still see me as a threat you will need a new word for the rest of the people on the planet who are real threat to the USA.
All I can hope for that country is more threat like me.

I'm not a fan of illegal immigration in the slightest, but it's not the immigrants faults. Hell, if I was making pennies, on the dollar, and I knew some American business would pay me exponentially more if I crossed the border, who wouldn't do that? If people want to stem the tide, you go after the employers.
First offense a fine, second offense 10 day in lockup, third 3 months. I'm sure for most employers, doing 10 days with would be more than enough for them to get the point.

There isn't much (if anything)I wouldn't do to feed my family. But a lot of illegals in my experience don't come here to feed their families. They come here to work, make a chunk of change and then retire in 10 years in their home country.

And I agree with going after the employers. But I don't necessarily agree with jail/prison time. Just very hefty fines. The reason for that is who do you jail? The person that hired them? The owner of the company? The head of HR?

Economic impact of illegal immigrants in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Those illegals that use a fake SSN number are paying taxes since their employer is taxing taxes out of there check each week and the illegal is NOT going to be filing an 1040 at the end of the year (and get a refund). They can't since they are using a stolen SSN.

You might want to check that wiki you linked. According to it there are about 8 million illegal aliens employed in this country, 6 million filed their tax returns.

Also, do you have any source for your claims about the billions of dollars "anchor babies" and non-immunized immigrants are costing us? I'd be interested, since the stats I've found don't show that.
I can't find any cites for the entire country, but one hospital costs were 70million for one year.
snopes.com: Parkland Memorial Hospital and Illegal Immigrants

I remember reading but can't find it where one city in Texas total cost were around 300 million. With numbers like that it is very likely just the birthing costs are in the billions.

Also most illegal alliens do speak english.Lets worry about americans not being able to speak another language.
I know lots of those too.

Not in my experience, the one place I worked at that had a pretty decent percentage(no idea of just how many) I was told by a legal immigrant the best way to tell was if they spoke english or not. If they were totally non-english speaking they were most likely illegal.

Went today and didn't see a one. :dunno:

This thread is full of lolz

What percentage of your city is hispanic? Best I can find is about 4%, my city is about 11% and last time I was there hispanics were 3 to 1. I took my brother and while I was waiting 3 hispanic families came in. Although it could of been 4 to 0, family rumor is that we are part hispanic. :): Long story.

I also feel that lots of US citizens think that every "alien" or non-US citizens that say see in the streets are therefore illegal aliens.
They think that you are either a US citizen or an illegal alien.
    That is not tue.
I saw that myself. Some people are quite ignorant and racist on that matter.
I am not a US citizen or a legal immigrant, im not an illegal alien either and and yet I can live in the US 100% legally.
Guest worker/student status? If your here legally I have no problem with it. And I know some non-citizens that are here legally and I'm friends with them. Heck my wife's bridesmaid husband is a non US citizen and doesn't plan on becomming one. He is one heck of a guy and I have no problem with him being in this country. My aunt and one of my cousins are naturalized citizens, I have no problem with them either.

Secondly, who are we kidding here? When people speak of "illegals," they're not talking about Canadians, of which there is a sizable illegal amount.

If I was to make a suggestion though, I first start by changing the 14th Amendment to address citizenship requirement. Next, I'd probably start aggressively prosecuting employers, and finally I'd have Posse Comitatus modified to allow the military to have an expanded role on the border.

Define "sizable", in 1996 according to DHS Canada was number 4 on the list of countries that illegals came from. Sounds high right? The amount was 120,000 which sounds pretty high right? They estimated that there were about 5 million illegals at that time.
    http://www.dhs.gov/xlibrary/assets/statistics/illegal.pdf

And I can't find the cites off hand but going from memory, most illegals work in the food industry. If all illegals left/were kicked out, cost of food would rise about 3%.

I do agree with amending the 14th though, if you are here illegally then your offspring are not automatically citizens. And going after employers. But IMO but IANAL you wouldn't have to modify Posse comitatus, according to the Constitution the military is allowed to protect our borders, well repel invasions anyway.:):

In order to have the right to bear arms as a non US citizen you have to be a legal permanent resident.

I'm not sure and if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me, but I thought as long as you were here legally you had the right to keep and bear arms? As long as you have a hunting license/permit that is lawfully issued in the U.S. ;). Which I don't agree with, our rights belong to us no matter what country were from, we are born with them. They need no piece of paper granting them to us.

    :patriot:

Don't read too much into that. From all I know of you, based on my interaction here, you seem a standup guy.
I'm speaking from a general sense. If you are the guy you portray, I have zero issue with you specifically becoming a citizen.

    To relay a story:
Some years back, I knew a guy from Zimbabwe. He was going to IUPUI for college, and we worked together at a local mall. On 9/11, I opened the store, turned on the TVs, and me and another employee watched in horror at what was unfolding in NYC, PA, and DC. Lil later this guy walked in (to begin his shift) a with a big grin on his face, and asked "what everybody was so sad about." That made my blood boil, and if the mall hadnt been closed a short time later, I am 100% sure I would have punched him in the face and attempted to drag him outside and show him what a curb stomp was.
That guy is now an American, in every sense of the word, and there are plenty more like him.
