Uh, both of those answers are wrong. If in state no FFL is needed. I'm pretty sure this is one of the FAQ's on the ATF website.
eta from the ATF website

Legally, long guns can be shipped person to person in state via USPS.
Legally, handguns can be shipped person to person in state via common carrier eg UPS, FedEx.
All of the above entities have rules against just that, though.
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm or ammunition, prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm and requires obtaining written acknowledgement of receipt.
It's legal with a long gun.
It may be legal, but will there be any trouble finding a shipper?
Box it up, weigh it, print a label online, drop it off.
Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy.
Just this week I went to UPS Customer Center on 86th street to send a package to Taurus in Miami for warranty work. Did this according to UPS rules on web site. Next day Air is their requirement for HG, only to an FFL. Cost was quoted as $91.00!!! Yes you read that correctly $91.00 Decided to do something differently; either trash product, have a smith look at it, or find another legal way to ship. What it really gets down to is the carriers do not want non FFL persons shipping. Just another form of gun control due to paranoia, or liability lawyers.

Get a dealer to ship it via USPS. They can ship it in a Priority Mail package.
What about taking the gun apart, wrapping up the individual pieces, then it's just a box of parts. Or mail the slide assembly and lower frame seperate, still just parts. Similar when sending Glock frames in for work somewhere.
