My buddy is somewhat stingy... Partly due to his budget, but mostly due to him just being a cheapskate.
He posed a pretty interesting question:
"If you could pick any carry gun, what would it be?"
Naturally I went through the basics; Glocks, M&P's, etc.
Then the kicker: "It can't be one of the popular $500+ firearms, if you were to pick a budget friendly "B-rated" handgun to carry, what would it be?"

Then I got to thinking: imagine a world without our favorites like Glock, Smith and Wesson, Ruger, so on and so forth. What if all we had to choose from were the less-sought after firearms? Which firearm would be the captain of the junior varsity team?

If I had to choose, it would probably be a Bersa Thunder, or maybe a Taurus... I can't help but cringe at "choose" and "Taurus" being in the same sentence.

I figured this would make an interesting/humorous thread on INGO.

    LET THE STANDARDS FALL!

In all honesty, I would probably go with an FMK9c1.
I mean come on... the Bill of Rights is engraved on the freaking slide.
$299 for the most patriotic striker-fired 9mm ever.

Taurus PT-709. I don't have one, but a friend does. So far, he is over 4,000 rounds with NO malfunctions other than ammo related.
It does not like CCI aluminum.

    What? No Davis/Jimminez/Bryco/Jennings... fans?

I have a Jennings .22, and it is 100% reliable.

What I mean is that the first round never fails to go off. After that it's more like .1% reliable for rounds 2 thru 6. But that first one fires every darn time.

In a SHTF situation, and I couldn't have my normal carry pistols...I'd go for a Makarov (or something similar).

Something that I know will take a beating but go bang every time. I grew up shooting my father's .380 Mak. It might not be the prettiest gun, but it sure shoots well :)
