A "GunBlast" article from 2009 states that Ruger had sold over 5.7 million of them since it was introduced in 1964. At that rate, which I think is probably conservative, they would have sold somewhere around 7 million as of today. Even considering guys who have several of them, that's a lot of people who think they're dandy guns. At one point I had an even dozen. I'm down to five now, including four different calibers, and a Charger in .17 HM2.

Although I only squirrel hunt with a .25 airgun now,for years I would kill 100+ with .22's-constantly looking for the ultimate squirrel rifle.I still have 4-52 Winchesters,3 Anschutz at least 6 CZ's and numerous other Remington,Marlin,Winchester etc. rimfires. Finally setteled on a 10/22 with a 17" Lilja .750" bbl. and a 3.5x10 Leupold scope in a DSP stock.

We love ours. My Ruger American Rimfire is in there as well.

    Nice family photos.
I enjoy the 10/22s and have 3 of them. I bought my first Ruger American .22 and absolutely love the accuracy out of the rifle.
There's a lot of good .22 rifles on the market. Don't overlook some older .22 rifles. You'll find some great shooters from the vintage rifles. .

YES, you must buy a Ruger 10/22. It is as much of a lego gun as an AR. You can take a $150 10/22 and add $1000 or more to it in a few minutes on the internet. Heavy barrels (threaded of course for a suppressor), good optics, a million or more stocks available and or course the trigger. There are literally hundreds of choices for triggers. And yes, I have several in my safes. Right now, I think I have 3, but I had 8 at one time.

Been there, done that. The only problem with it is that after you add $500 - $1000 in aftermarket parts, you have a $400-$500 gun. Darned nice one but it's like custom cars. You'll never get your $$$ back so you'd better like it when you're done.

Still, "YES, you must buy a Ruger 10/22".

I wondered this for a while. Should I build up a spare 10/22 I have or buy a bolt gun.

What's the best value and accurate aftermarket threaded barrel?
Get a bolt. I actually prefer shooting my Savage FVSR to any semi-auto. I even took mine to Appleseed and qualified Rifleman with it.

That's what I keep thinking. My buddy has one and I've been leaning that way for a couple years now.

    Agreed
No modification necessary to outdo what a 10/22 gets out of the box if you get a quality bolt rimfire, especially the Savage, 77/22, or a CZ 45x.

For a fun plinker it's hard to beat a 10-22, mine is as bought besides the tech sights. I do love shooting my old Marlin bolt action 22 too though, it eats everything and is quiet enough with cb's to not wear ear plugs!

The 10/22 is the popular choice, but it doesn't really seem as classic as this:

I have my Dads 10/22. Love it. I love that you can get one of the BX-25 mags and just shoot. I do have a bolt action that I like a lot too. I think it is a Savage Mark II. That thing is great too, but I have a Leupold scope and a suppressor on it. I had the barrel threaded on the Ruger, kinda wish I hand not done that though. If you are going to suppress, then get a .22 with a threaded barrel. I wasted my money and altered my fathers gun. Either way though it is a great gun to shoot. I think Magpul makes a complete stock you can buy too.

The 10/22 is the cheeseburger and fries of .22 LR rifles, but for looks, accuracy, and a true classic, it's mighty hard to beat my Marlin 39A.
It's just a personal matter, but I've never cared for a semiauto .22, so if I didn't already have my beloved Marlin, I'd probably get either a Ruger 77/22, CZ45x, or Ruger American, with a walnut stock, of course.

All good guns, but how many of those can you pick up for $200?
