Got this idea from the other thread.

Here's the idea: If you want to be a candidate, begin your post with "I'm running for office".

Post your stand on whatever issues you care to, answer any questions you care to, give your ideas, and we'll have a campaign right here. On Monday, we'll post a poll with the candidates who've entered, and see how people vote.

    I'm running for office.

About me: I'm a philosophical libertarian, and I currently work as a software engineer.

    ISSUES

Gun rights: I favor the repeal of all gun laws, including the NFA. I don't believe anyone should be barred from owning or carrying guns.

Social security: I believe the system needs to end, but I don't think it would be right to jerk the rug out from under folks who depend on it. Hard as it might be to do, I think the best way to get rid of it is a gradual phasing-out, with folks already retired maintaining their benefits, and a sliding scale going back to age 40. Folks 40 and under are expected to provide for their own retirement (this includes me, btw).

Economy: I favor the separation of Economy and State. Government should not be involved in attempting to "manage" the economy. This includes getting rid of the Federal Reserve, the minimum wage, corporate subsidies, punitive taxes on "excess profits", and so forth.

Military: I believe we should stop foreign adventurism, pull our troops back, and put them to work defending our actual borders.

Taxes: Government needs to stop spending like drunken sailors, first of all. I don't believe in the righteousness of taxation, and would look for ways to eliminate it. That said, my immediate goal would be to cut taxes to a maximum of 9.9% for everyone, with spending cuts to match. Most programs which are currently funded or subsidized by the government should be begging for donations instead.

Trade: I favor free trade with all nations, entangling alliances with none. "Free trade" means just that -- government doesn't get involved, we don't have "most favored nations" or "G8 summits" or any of these other myriad ways in which governments conspire to make a buck off one another and call it free trade.

Education: the Federal Government needs to be out of the process entirely. State and local governments should also be on their way out. At the very least, all barriers currently in place to prevent private competition with tax-funded schools need to be eliminated.

That's all I can think of for now.

    Im running for office.

    My stances:

    Eliminate government waste.

Enforce laws on the books. Eliminate useless ones as I deem so.

    Privatize many government sectors.

    Let free trade work.

Shoot lions in the the face whenever applicable. (Never trust a lion. Shifty I tell you...)

    One more item:

ELECTIONS: I favor either an instant-runoff style system, or a none-of-the-above system, or a hybrid of the two.

Instant-runoff means you select candidates in order of preference, and if your first choice doesn't have the votes to win, your vote goes to your second choice, and so on, until one candidate has a clear majority.

None-of-the-above means that if NOTA gets more votes than any other candidate, a new election is held and none of the present candidates are allowed to run.

Can I run on Fletch's ticket? Maybe be a Czar or something?

    My additions:
Marriage: not the government's business. Stop all licensing and all benefits.

Welfare: not the government's business. Charitable organizations can do a MUCH better job. Phase out all welfare programs and their associated taxes. Let citizens donate where they feel it is needed. I'm on the fence about the truly destitute, though. Maybe let local governments (city or townships) run local programs (more direct citizen oversight).

Taxes: Move to a flat/fair tax system, and possibly consumption/use taxes (sales tax). NO property taxes (you can actually OWN something), and no taxes on vices (gambling, booze, smoking) or earnings (income, dividends, inheritance).

    I'm running for office.

Where I stand on the issues:

Taxes: We cut 85% of all taxes down the line and we get to have what ever kind of government we can fund with the remaining 15%

Everything else: If it is happening on private property between consenting adults and with the consent of the landowner and it is not physically effecting anyone else or their physical property, then it's legal.

    Thank you for your support.

    I'm running for office.

I'll keep my platform simple; any federal agency whose existence is not clearly mandated by the constitution will be eliminated at the federal level. Any monies budgeted for those agencies will be returned to the states. Anyone suggesting the creation of a new agency not clearly mandated by the constitution will be tarred and feathered.

    I'm running for office.

As stated in the original thread, I'm just a regular guy.

My biggest priority would be government reform.
    1. TERM LIMITS on ALL politicians. The law makers MUST know they have to return to the world they have created or they won't care about it.
    2. Transparency. Other than obvious military secrets, what happens in the halls of Washington should be made PUBLIC.

As far as ISSUES, I am obviously Pro 2A.
I think socialism is bad thing. I think we should help care for those who need some help, but not give handouts or redistribute assets or wealth to those who want to take advantage of the system.
DEFEND THE BORDER! Allow people to immigrate through the proper channels, but if here illegally, deport them.
Do NOT raise the debt cap
MINIMAL government involvement in public education.

I have more but for now I have to stop typing... I'll edit later.

    :)

    Im Running for Office

Hello Ladies, and Gentleman (here let me kiss that baby for you).

I am running for office, and under my watch we will live in prosperity and happiness.

    A vote for me will help to ensure;

A 9% flat tax on everyone.. Equality is just that! If you make more money you earned it. If you are a business you pay taxes just like your employees and that tax is flat, if you do work here in the United States you pay taxes here no tax havens.

Call back the Military from other countries unless there is proof that the United States or a strategic ally is currently in danger.

Cut most forms of public entitlement! (I am for fixing SS and what not but seriously how do you do that? Old people living and dying on the street because a 401k goes under I don't this so).

Partnership equality--No matter what type of partnership you have gay or not you have the same rights as everyone else. Enjoy them in your pursuit of happiness.

    Kill DADT, and DOMA

Border Security!! We need a guest program for farms out west GREAT work our farms and then leave, go home, and we will make sure you do by documenting you and making the farms that need you responsible. Build a giant fence and make a coast guard like force for our boarders.

Make it a crime to not balance the budget each and every year.

IF you want to go to war, well it's a tough choice make a war tax to pay for it. That way you are beholden to the citizens that are paying for it. It better be a just war or likely you won't be reelected.

More control to states and an open and truly free economy. The only differences are you can't do business with countries or groups that would endanger or inhibit national security and state rights do not trump equal rights, or civil rights.

Oh ya and GM plants and seeds need to be proven again before going to market!!!

    Thanks,
Matthew Dean Miller for President of the United States located on Planet Matthew
