I worked for a company that tried to get me to move down to E'ville. After the streets cleared at 5pm downtown I decided E'ville was too dangerous for me!

Well .. this (Evansville) isn't heaven, but there are worse places to be .. I lived in Indy for a while, and I much prefer the smaller town. Which is neither here nor there .. YMMV

The 'victim' in this case was 80 years old and manged to put a bullet in the SOB that invaded his home. Too bad the perp didn't die. If the courts do their job he'll be put away for a while.

Kudos to the old guy that was able to defend himself in that situation. We need to let the crooks know that we're ready to provide our own justice when necessary.

My daughter lives in downtown E'Ville. I am concerned for her safety, but she does the best she can to be wise and careful. She has lived there since 2006 on and off.

Though I don't usually carry, when I am there, I do.

Why does she live in DT E-Ville? Money? or just likes the river? Other than my military life, I've lived in the Evill area all my life, and you couldn't pay me enough to life in the DT area.

Hope he's doing OK.. If he needs anything, just let us know.. We're close by.:yesway:

Exactly this! I'm just happy he came out on top. We should read stories like this everyday instead of robbers, murderers and rapists getting away with their crimes.

If more people just carried and took their safety into their own responsibility we would see a dramatic decrease in predators looking for an easy target.

My band played a weekend at the Aztar Casino down there, on Saturday night my trumpet player and I went to Denny's downtown after the show for a quick bit. I was wondering why the streets were almost deserted, then I noticed the type of vehicles cruising around. When I saw the '79 Oldsmobuick with the 22" wire spoke rims, fully tinted windows, and chameleon paint job roll by the windows, we paid the check and went back to the hotel. WTF happened to that city?

You all are way too paranoid. I go downtown at night all the time. I would walk around (almost) any southside neighborhood with no reservations at all. (I grew up on the southside)

Evansville isn't that bad. I fear the cops more than the gangbangers.

We will not read more stories like this one because the Liberal Media has an agenda. That is why I do not read newspapers, or go to "Mainstream" media sites. :twocents:

I live in Boonville. Not far from Evansville. When I heard about the break in and shooting I was pleased to hear that the older gentleman was able to protect himself. I hope he is doing well after the event.

Partly money. She can find affordable(barely) rent downtown. She is working and finishing her Master's so it works for her. She lives not to far from Penny Lane Coffee shop if you know where that is. You could walk to it.

Hopefully it won't be too long and her boyfriend will propose to her, then get married and move in with him. He has a decent house north of E'ville in the "burbs".

She has lived in Saipan, traveled solo in Japan, Bali, Australia, New Zealand, spent time in Africa and Myanmar, so she does not feel to threatened by the downtown area.

But, like I alluded to earlier, she is cautious. One day she came home from work and a homeless guy was shuffling by and she sat in her car until he was far enough away that she could safely get in her apartment. He probably would not have caused any trouble, but she err's on the cautious side.

Only places worse would be IL (especially Chicago) or DC.

Downtown is surprisingly safe. I have worked in the downtown for over 20 years and have seen it do nothing but improve. Trouble begins when you start to head southeast. Get out of the historic district and head towards Hwy 41 and things can get dicey.

Interesting, there is not now, nor has there ever been, a Denny's downtown.
