They are new to length, width and height.

Journalism major, not a math major... or any practical skills. probably never been in the same room with a screwdriver or hammer.

Perhaps not the right place to bring this up, but why is a short barreled shotgun illegal but a pistol with an even shorter barrel length is not ? What does cutting the barrel off have to do with any type of logic that creates an “illegal” firearm ?

Because the gangsters 100 years ago cut the barrels shorter to A. be more concealable but still mitigate recoil with the stock and B. get more spread for close range damage. They couldn't pin the gangsters to more gangsterly crimes so they got them on weapons violations and tax evasion. Most of the NFA rules date back to then. Similarly, suppressors weren't made illegal because they were dangerous, they were made illegal because it made poaching easier to get away with in the depression.

So the ban was to enact some form of punishment, and not to outlaw a certain rifle to disarm a group of people that you're butthurt over?

I just skimmed through the posts...more than a few seem to want to normalize this guy's behavior because he is a gun owner.

He's a nut job living in a hole on someone else's property without permission. It has to be dealt with.
