Thinking about buying a 30/30 lever for deer. How many of you guys hunt with the 30/30 lever ? Just curious with everybody going the AR route . I lived in northern michigan for a while and guys were going away from the levers and going AR. Remington 30-06 was popular too. It brought back memories of red/black plaid wool coats that ALL the guys had up in northern wisconsin in HURLEY wisconsin where I also lived for a while , we had SERIOUS SNOW up there , they had jet engines on the county trucks that BLEW the snow 75ft from the road , they were monsters . I had penochie mtns going thru the back yard 500 yards back. Timber wolves were all over the mountains , saw one that I thought was a shetland pony , massive animal.I bought a marlin 444 for up there , kept close to door because I had to let the dogs out for potty time at night , had to stay out and watch them.Neighbors huge PYRENNES MOUNTAIN DOG got killed in my back yard one night. They had two and lost the one.

Seriously? The .30-30 in a lever action gun like a Winchester 94 has probably taken more deer in the course of USA history than any other cartridge/rifle combination ever used. My 2 cents. Enough said!

I have a Marlin 336 30/30, got it from my FIL, never hunted with it. I agree with BGcatty, the thurty-thurty probably taken more deer, not to mention, all types of game since it came out in 1894....it is an iconic round, and the Winchester 94, and the Marlin 336 are just great guns, as many of you know, the prices of these guns have skyrocketed...use to be able to buy a 94 in a pawn shop for about $100 +, and the Marlins where not much more.....now they are more like $500 and up...if you can find one. I'm gifting my 336 to my step son this year, and hoping in the future to find a 94 that I can afford (hey a guy can dream!)

My first deer hunting rifle was a Winchester model 94 30-30 trapper. I paid $89.00 for it brand new. "That was in 1973".
I hunted the U.P. of Michigan where we lived for a few years in the 70's.
Had an uncle that lived in Ironwood

Used that rifle for years until I bought a Winchester model 70 in 270 caliber.
Sold the 30-30 a few years ago and have regretted ever since.

I was looking for a 30/30 marlin/winchester really , and came across this rifle , never knew mossberg made a 30/30 . Do any of you have this rifle and what do you think of it all around , quality , accuracy , wood to fit ? I need feedback to make a better decision, and thank you.
