Lumping people into a bigger group, al la las vegas shooter etc. and using that as a basis of actions.
I'm just going a step beyond to show that the gun owner analogy doesn't really stand up, IMHO.

But why doesn't it? If anything, your point about Muslim gun owners appears to support my assertion.
In the US, there are probably thousands who aren't terrorists - I haven't seen the statistics on it to know the order of magnitude of Muslim gun owners. Regardless, the number of them who are criminals/terrorists is probably about the same as the population at large.
