The AP deleted their "god is great" tweet

    https://twitter.com/ap/status/854716457392975874

We deleted a tweet about a Fresno slaying suspect shouting "God is great." It failed to note he said it in Arabic. A new tweet is upcoming.

This is one of those half-apology sort of things. "...failed to note he said it in Arabic." instead of the more accurate "...failed to note he said Allahu akbar"

NOI is not Islam at all. Not even close. Its a race based political movement that plucked some things from Islam to help advance the racist founders cause. It would be the same if I took a few guidelines from say, Hinduism and called it Nation of Hinduism. That doesnt make it Hinduism. It just makes the founder an idiot.

Nation of Islam shares very little with Islam other than the name. It was founded by a bigot in the 1930s using trappings of Islam to sell it as a religion. It's a religion literally founded in racism and the notion that Whites are evil (not bad, but actually evil as in demons/devils) and Blacks will inherit the Earth.

I know that will make little difference to most of you, but NOI is not Islam.

And for those wondering if hate crimes can be against Whites: Hate crime is suspected after a gunman kills 3 white men in downtown Fresno - LA Times

From "Days of Rage" (amazing book, BTW)

Like many blacks who would go underground in the 1970s, Malcolm (X) was radicalized behind bars, poring over nationalist texts recommended by older inmates. It was his brother, Reginald, who drew him into an obscure sect called the Nation of Islam. The Nation had been founded in 1930 by a Detroit clothing salesman named Wallace D. Fard, who preached that blacks had ruled the earth six thousand years ago, until their destruction by a renegade black wizard named Yakub, who then created the white man -- the "white devil," in the Nation's mythos; blacks, Fard prophesied, would destroy the white devil in a future apocalypse. Until his disappearance and presumed death in 1934, Fard imbued his disciples with a message of racial pride, economic equality, and personal discipline. Over the next twenty years his protege, Elijah Muhammad, quietly built the Nation into a small but vocal group of clean-cut, impeccably dressed black separatists, including a paramilitary wing called the Fruit of Islam. Still, by 1952, when Malcolm emerged from prison, Muhammad had only a few hundred followers.

    Fard's is an interesting story.

Fard’s demise as the leader of the temple was brought upon him when, on Thanksgiving Day in 1932, one of his followers, Robert Harris, renamed Robert Karriem, committed a human sacrifice in order to bring himself closer to Allah. Karriem cited a quotation from a book entitled Secret Rituals of the Lost-Found Nation of Islam, authored by Wallace D. Fard Muhammad, which read, “The believer must be stabbed through the heart.” This quote, as well as another stating, “Every son of Islam must gain a victory from a devil. Four victories and the son will attain his reward,” convinced the Detroit Police Department — motivated in part by the anti-Muslim hysteria fueled by media coverage of the event — to seek out Fard in conjunction with the murder.

Karriem was found to be legally insane and was committed. Fard, facing possible charges, confessed that his teachings were dangerous and that he would use his influence to disband the ATI. He agreed to leave Detroit forever in order to receive immunity, and boarded a train bound for Chicago on Dec. 7.

The ATI was disbanded as ordered, though in name only; as the Nation of Islam, it continued to grow. Fard snuck back into Detroit in January 1933, but was identified by authorities, arrested in May and again ordered to leave the city.

He returned to Chicago, was arrested on charges of disturbing the peace through his preaching, and again returned to Detroit. After another brush with the law in April 1934, Fard left Detroit for good. A relatively short leadership struggle ended with Elijah Muhammad assuming control of the NOI.
