I don’t even know what to say, Rick. I really like talking to your dad, he’s a good guy, who raised a couple of good sons(I don’t know much about your brother, although I’ve met him a few times, but I’ll take your word that he’s a good guy, too). You know you can always talk to me if you need to.

No :( I'm so sorry Rick. My Father-In-Law had the same type of cancer, and after battling it for several years he passed away five months after my wife and I got engaged. There are treatment options available that will slow the progression of the disease. I'm sure you've already resolved to spend as much time with him as you can.

My family is much the same way. We talked around it and made jokes about it. It was a little unreal and other people just looked at us as if there was something seriously wrong with us. My dad passed in '12 and not a day goes by that I don't think about him and wish I had said a few things. Sometimes life seems like nothing more than an accumulation of regrets. I hope you find the proper time and place to say things you need to say so that it doesn't become something you have to wear for the rest of your life.

    I can sympathize. :-(

I'm going through this, too, man. My dad's just beginning home hospice for end-stage COPD. He also has end-stage renal failure. Not gonna be pretty.

A good friend told me something last night that I plan on doing. He told me to ask my dad if there were some things that he wishes he'd have done when he could have. And then maybe make some of those things a goal to do yourself.

    Best to you and yours.

What pleasure is there in our life that is not mixed with
sorrow? What glory on earth that lasts? All are more fleeting
than shadows, and more deceitful than a dream! In one
moment death takes all away. But, You O Christ, in the light
of Your face, in the beauty of Your holiness, give peace to our
brother You have chosen, for You are the Lover of
    Mankind.

O Almighty God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we
pray to You for Your servant whose sickness is bringing
him to the end of his earthly life. You are the God
whose only-begotten Son taught us that not even the
smallest sparrow can fall without Your knowledge, and that
You hold all creation in Your merciful arms. Look upon Your
servant and allow this illness to be for the death only of
those things which are the result of evil and sin. Let his
thoughts be quieted with the peace and confidence of his
final deliverance into the fullness of Your love. Keep his
soul and body pure, and sanctify them during the time
he remains among us, that on the last day he may
be raised up with all Your saints to live with You in neverending
glory. For to You belong praise and worship, to the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of
    ages. Amen

Today is Hammer Down Cancer Night at the Purdue Northwestern FB game and when we take a moment of silence I ask St. Nectarios for his intercessions.

Oh and could you give me your father's first name? PM is fine if you wish not to post it. I prefer to pray for people by name. I will put him on my 40 day prayer list.

    Thanks

    You're welcome.

I knew that you had friends here who would want to know and be there for you and I am certain that just as reading posts in thread have brought some comfort, that you are getting some heartfelt PMs from folks.

Amen Foszoe....Thanks for encouraging me to post public about this....

Leroy Geary...It was supposed to be Lee Roy Geary but the courthouse messed up on the birth certificate and my family hates dealing with "gubmint" people so Leroy NMN Geary came to be....Some of his cousins in Kentucky still call him Lee...
