What the guy did turned out great, and had multiple steps, but IMHO no art degree needed.
    Simple stuff, just more steps.
Pay attention to the spacing he uses.
In the base layers, and then the brush painted stuff.
    That is the key.

Make a cardboard cutout of your gun and do a practice run, to completion, and see what you did wrong.

Should have comparable results on the 2nd run, on the real rig.

    :)

Yeah, maybe. I am more of a linear guy. Let me mask off geometric shapes and I can do okay. Free handing the reeds...well I would need lot's of practice.:)

I agree on the fashion statement though. When I visited my son at his AFB, all the Security Forces had black rifles.

I duck hunted for most of my younger years with a shiny blued and highly polished walnut stocked shotgun. I am pretty sure I never scared a duck off from all my bling.

    Never painted my face either.

    But it does look cool!:)

Camo a gun and the next thing you know, you've got a safe full of spray painted rigs.
I stripped one of my camo jobs, went solid color on the stock/forend.
Good thing about spray paint on metal and synth stocks........acetone takes it off.

My first few turkeys were shot with a high gloss Remington 1100 Magnum.
Hated putting tape on (and taking it off).
Stepson saw my BDL 700 flash from a few hundred yards off while coyote hunting.
It went bye bye for a matte synth model.
Still shot geese with 1100 in shiny dress, but was in a blind.
Replaced that minty rig with a used SP with synth stock (don't have to baby it).
