We love to travel. The wife found a resort in Playa Del Carmen that she wanted to go to and we went. And the Mayan Riviera is not Nuevo Laredo or Sinaloa......

Honestly it is probably just as safe here as it is there. Go stupid places and do stupid things and you'll get murdered...here or there. Now there are different security issues (kidnapping not nearly as common here) and there are cultural/language barriers and there is that whole "no guns" thing but if you pay attention to your surroundings and don't do dumb stuff and don't act like a jackass and you'll probably be fine.
