    Hey all!

While browsing a distributor's website looking for something unrelated, I noticed a couple items from S&W that I didn't recognize.

    S&W Self Defense
Polymer frame. 4" barrel. Stainless steel slide w/ Melonite finish. Steel fixed rear sight/front tritium night sight. Industry standard equipment rail. Ergonomic design.

Part numbers appear to be 220400 for the .40 (14-round) and 220900 for the 9mm (16-round). Also shows part numbers for models with 10-round mags for restricted states. MSRP is $520.

These are listed and described separately from the Sigma and M&P lines, so I ass-u-me it's a completely new design. S&W's website doesn't list anything. Anyone got any intel?

Could you give us the website so we could have a look?

No; it's a distributor website that requires a business login.

I was thinking maybe these were simply a "distributor exclusive" version of the Sigma, since dealer cost and MSRP are close to the SW9/40VE. But the "industry standard rail" as described would require a new frame mold (not cheap), and it would probably still share the general SW9/40 designation. There would probably also be a pic posted on the distributor's site, even if it was just a generic Sigma photo.

    The plot thickens...

Smith is coming out with a polymer J-frame style too. ala Ruger LCR.
Cylinder release is along the top instead of the left side.

I'm not interested in the bodyguard series. Now if S&W came out with a subcompact single stack 9mm in their M&P line I would be all over it!

MSRP is $530 so shelf price will be in the mid to low $400s. Looks like another generation of the Sigma, so should be full of win! :rockwoot:

Worst case scenario is that we have another budget automatic to choose from. Best case is that its a real improvement over the Sigma and will be priced cheaper than the M&P (cant see how it wouldn't be). :) The 16+1 mag capacity makes me wonder if it will be taking Sigma mags...........

Im wanting to get my hands on one and try it out, might have to buy one and test it out. :yesway:

Edit: And I fail for not searching. I didn't see anything on the first page so assumed no one had mentioned it yet.

That looks really interesting. I wish more pistols would be chambered in .38 Super and 10mm though.

    looks like an updated Sigma

    Or a dumbed-down M&P...

Either way, might be a happy medium for lots of folks.

Looks like they've done some things right with this new offering (front night sight, standard accessory rail, better grip texture); hopefully they've dropped in the M&P trigger pack instead of continuing to burden their customers with the godawful Sigma trigger.

I'm guessing we'll see 6 months of overlap with the sigma series and then see those blown out the door at bargain prices (which is great beacuse I need a 9mm) and then this will be the entry polymer pistol. Frame dimensions with the exception of the rail look exactly like the current SW-VE series. Weight is ~2oz. less than the current Sigma's.

Hopefully we'll get some reviews here shortly. Strange this wasn't announced at SHOT though.
