For some reason im really intrigued by the 10mm and have been telling myself that would be my next purchase, but now that im getting close to buying i wonder if i shouldnt get a .45 instead? If i go with the .45 ammo is pretty much available anywhere in my area as to where 10mm not so much, but it is around. Any thoughts on this?

    45. 10mm is too hard to find, too many different ideas what the "proper" load is (from a munitions MFR side), etc.

IF you want cool factor, than go 10. Its nothing more than a novelty really IMHO.

Despite my screen name, I love my G20. I shoot and carry Underwood exclusively. Those are full powered loads and they can be had in many different bullet weights.

Do you reload ammo? If not, the 10mm will be expensive to feed when you can find ammo for it. If you do, 10mm can be a whole lot of fun to reload for. I have a couple of 10mm pistols and really like the round. The Glock G20 is one of the most powerful handguns around and packs over 10,000 ft lbs of energy per magazine. But, if you don't reload or if you don't own a .45, I'd probably recommend going for the .45. Everyone should own at least one .45. Preferably in a 1911. It's tough to get a more American semi-auto than the 1911 in .45.

10mm is not appreciably more expensive than .45. Within a buck or so a box for plinking ammo and the same price for premium self defense ammo. While you can't buy it at Walmart, I was able to find it more available during the recent shortage than .45.

It is a reloader's dream though, some of the widest range of any semi-auto.

If you go 1911 pattern you can have 2 slide/ barrel assemblies and swap between as needed. My 10mm is a Smith & Wesson 1006. It's a nice heavy all stainless gun although it's a but big for concealed carry. 10mm ammo is definitely harder to find than .45 in normal times. The past 10 months though I was finding 10mm easier than 9mm oddly enough. Ballistically the 10mm is superior to the .45 in almost every regard. It also is much snappier with full power loads in the recoil department. Hope this info helps you.

What do you want to get out of this purchase, OP? "BOOM" factor? Versatility? Something else?

Question for those in the know. I have a Glock G30 and have seen conversion barrels for 10MM, so what else would need to be changed?

I would think slide assembly (with extractor, etc) due to breech face size difference. Not sure about ejector.

i bought a glock 20 when i had convinced myself i would love it. its honestly kind of 'meh'. its heavy and doesn't fit my hand well, and i can't find decent ammo for it.
i honestly i prefer shooting my .40 over it.

You will also need G29 magazines and, some people change out the extractor.

I'm quite sure that Storm Lake is the only company that makes a G30 10MM conversion barrel but, I could be wrong.

Note: They don't work with the new G30S.

My personal opionion was that the recoil of 10mm was sharper than a 45, however the comparison was between a witness and an 1911.If at all possible find a buddy to let you shoot or at least hold the propsed new pistol, could save you loads of cash.

What other Handguns do you have ? I would want to own the 45 first.

    I have .357, 9mm and .380 pistols

i actually held the glock 20 and 29 today, like the 20 better. while the .45 ammo is plentiful im finding alot of 10mm also lately.
