Winchester model 74. Find one in 22 LR and then quest to find a 22 short only gun.
The 22 short is my very favorite 22 and fun for new and old shooters alike.

Nylon 66 is a classic too.

I was thinking the same, but didn't know how old the OP was looking for.

I picked up a Glenfield model 25 for my son for Christmas, even has the old Glenfield scope on it. Might want to look for one of those for your collection.

Winchester model 270 pump also fed s,l, lr- tubular mag- maybe too recent though('70's, late 60's maybe). Gave my son one in early 80s, still uses it regularly

While I wholeheartedly agree with a Winchester 52 of any vintage . You should also throw in a Winchester 75 for good measure. Target or Sporter.

Remington 581 or 582 (might be too new for you). Mine shoot well above their pay grade. Can never go wrong with the Win 9422! Where's the pics? :patriot:

Winchester Model 1890, made in 1928, .22 Short only. Maternal Grandfather used to tie it across the handle of a horse drawn plow in the spring and use it on young ground hogs along the fence lines. When he got back by the house he would shout for one of his daughters to run down and get it for supper. Never was a fun gun, it was strictly a farm gun.

I'm having trouble fighting back envy! I have several of those and had some others. My favorite is still the 39A.

I’ll admit the 39A is up there. But the Win 62 is so smooth, it’s incredible. Since I just picked up the 9422 I want to compare it to the 39A. But I don’t want to shoot it due to its condition. I think I’ll buy another so I don’t shoot this one
