As my family sorts through my Dad's collection, we find that he had a soft spot for Ruger Revolvers. He had a .357 Blackhawk, a 22LR Single Six and a .357 Security Six.
I kind of like the Security Six. IS that one I should be interested in?
    Pros/cons?

Definitely! It's solid and locks tight. It's heavy and throws a .357 out of the barrel pretty softly, IMO. Take it home and love it.

Great guns. Very durable. FWIW, Dave Tong mentions a rental Security-Six that had around 1.4 million rounds through it. [1]

Ruger re-engineered the Security/Speed-Six line to be less expensive/more efficient to produce (leading to the GP100s), not because of any inherent weakness in the design that I know of.

Outstanding pistols. They used to be issued to military pilots. And how many revolvers are field strippable with a take down pin hidden in the hand grips. I bet a lot of guys aren't aware of that.

686's have this as well. I think GP's do too?

Anyways security six's are great. Built to last imo.

Glad to hear good things about the Security Six. I'll add that to my half of the list. It looks and feels very nice.
If nobody wants the others, I may just claim them too. They are nice. I just don't want to be greedy...;)

I carried an issued security six, that was obviously carried by someone else for a long time. Even though the finish was tired, the revolver shot pretty well and I never doubted it's ability to do the job.

    Between SB and FT.W
Rugers "Six" series of 357's are some of the best made.

these use to be easy to find, and inexpensive, not anymore!

Well built, balanced, durable and just the right size for its purpose.

Ruger should have never stopped making them.

security six is very solid. I've thought about trading it in the past but just can't do it. My 13yr old son is trying to claim it as his now...

I have an "as issued" NYPD Police Service Six
which is DAO in .38 special.
It's really a fun revolver to shoot and dry fire too.
The trigger on this one is pleasantly smooth.
Finding the serial number throws people off
because it's located on the heel of the grip frame,
and the original Pachmayr grip has a window cut-out
at the bottom just to be able to see it.
If one can be found for sale at a reasonable price
then don't hesitate to buy it.

The security six is a very solid gun. Actually that is an understatement; it is an exceptional great gun. My bro just bought one, a 2 3/4 barrel. It is a total blast to shoot literally and it is accurate. Super solidly built; you'll never wear it out. Good pick.
