what are they going to claim that is their's? the park? most of the 99% dont pay taxes so how can it be their's?
Actually Peoples Park does not belong to the city, county, or any other government entity. It is owned by the people. When the family that gave the land to the "people" did so, they supposedly set it up as some sort of trust or something and it has specific guidelines making it sort of a "sanctuary" or "safe haven" if you will. When I went to high school in bloomington (back when the town was still somewhat conservative), rumor had it that the police could not even enter the park to arrest you for selling or using drugs, but rather had to get you leaving the park and even then as long as you weren't in possession they were s.o.l.
I spent many nights sleeping in that park, hanging at spaceport and garcias, white rabbit....oh, and the book store across the street that sold single cigarettes......nearly lost my virginity in the balcony at the von lee movie theater...man bloomington sucks now.

The "People's Park" is apparently under the control of Bloomington Parks & Rec, which budgeted over $100,000 for its maintenance and upkeep in the late 1990s.

    Peoples Park

I guess the "People" weren't doing a good job cleaning up the place.:):

Funny thing is that "The People" want the benefits of something without the responsibility. That's where good government comes in - a way to hold people accountable to do things in a good way in exchange for the authority to manage it well.

When somethings left to "everybody", "everybody" assumes "somebody else" will take care of it. In effect, leaving "everyone" responsible leaves "nobody" responsible.

ETA: I thought Bloomington was already occupied?!?! What's left to take over?!?!!

hmph, interesting. I left bloomington in '88 and again for the last time in '91. A lot of funny business was said to have gone on after then. Look into Lake Lemon and how they got control of it...so they could neglect it and tax the crap out of property owners...closing the beach and campground, giving it to the BSA, and letting it sit practically unused.....etc....might even look into some of the Cook deals downtown around the square....that's how my stepfather lost his businesses and buildings on Kirkwood across from the old courthouse.

It's the HT. Integrity and journalism are foreign concepts to them.

Have you read the whole thread?

    My take from the posts

    so what, homeless people die.....
no problems with drugs, drinking, public sex and using the park as a bathroom
poor timing on his death, but we will go on
the paper is ignoring them or posting them in a good light
noticed in one of the posts someone stole over a $100 from the donation box. too funny!
The mayor is leaving them alone

If this was a tea party event?

They would be all over it and demanding an end.

I was down there last Sunday visiting my brother who goes to IU...

The family and I walked past occupy Bloomington and it is safe to say that the place looks disease ridden and absolutely disgusting! I won't get into how the people there looked. It's sad liberal Bloomington is letting them have their homeless camp there. That section of town is a nice area.

I'm interested in why the local news hasn't reported on the death of that man??

    You're kidding???

It goes against the cause, and why would the paper hurt them?

Also, the young blond girl alone in the picture was not being watched by her mom. My wife asked her if she was lost and a lady walked over from a meeting 150 away to check on her.

Would you leave a five year old girl alone in the park? After when she saw where she was, she went back to the meeting.

No way I can paraphrase and say it as well as Victor Davis Hanson:

I saw videos of youths burning things in Oakland, but was told that it “was a small minority” and atypical of the protest. Not long ago I saw no clips of anyone spitting at black congresspeople wading into the Tea-Party demonstration, but was told they did and that it was typical of tens of thousands of racialists on the Mall.

At what point does biased journalism become pure propaganda?

I've read every word. My point was simply that given the HT's past history of slanting stories and outright making up 'facts' to support their agenda, failing to report on a death 'for the cause' isn't surprising.

I always thought Bloomington had a certain suck factor. I've been hanging out in the area off and on for the last 40 years. Did you know Monroe County has one of the lowest income levels in the state? Even with IU being there. The fratboys and girls drop in for a few years, dump off some cash, learn about sex, drugs, and Johnny Cougar...and move on, so it seems. I remember Bloomington before they damned up Salt Creek and make Lake Monroe...it sucked then too.
