If this is out there please direct me, I’ve searched.
What are the thoughts on painted guns?
What different patterns/techniques have people used? I was to anxious paint one of my ARs or AK so I painted a Bubba SKS I had.

Ive painted some rifle. Its fun. I used Brownell alumahyde and did one in gunpowder. I usually order some stenciled that peel and stick from ebay.

I did one with rustoleum a while back. Primer, base color, layers.

Tearing a big strip of brown packing paper in a ragged pattern and holding it slightly over the workpiece made for a good patterning device.

I've done a couple with Krylon or RustOleum. Bolt gun was sprayed over a mesh bag, the AR sprayed over fishnet pantyhose. Admittedly, I overdid it with the burnt orange a little bit. I was going for Autumn colors. IMG_0522.jpg IMG_0521.jpg

I am reminded of finding about the 500th some Remington 870 ever made, At Falls City Firearms with a davis speedfeed stock someone did up in Baby Poop Camo.

    It looks better now...

I would agree…. An improvement. Not every gun needs a face lift. Nor do guns “need” to be camouflaged. I just think it does look cool on some guns, and some should be left alone.

The 700 now wears an HS stock and I like the subdued spiderweb of their factory finish.
Which is why Id like a Flecktarn on my PH.
Anymore am pretty much against camo stocks and don't want to mess w painting.
Fun but after a few I got burned out. Heck I have a factory Mossy Oak stock on my Rem 1100 magnum and wish it was just black.

Proly end up leaving the Steyr alone unless send off for film dip.

Just a word of caution: while painting stocks can be fun, it's easy to overdo it....in pattern or quantity of projects. A little goes a long way IMHO.

I've been hesitant to paint guns previously but I recently picked up a cheap AR upper that was begging for a camo job. I made a few mistakes, learned a few things and had a lot of fun. I'm really happy with the way it turned out using a mix of Rust-O and Alumahyde. Now, I'm fighting the urge to paint everything.

Well, I just ordered a spare stock from Numrichs, to be my test subject LOL
Looks like Flecktarn takes black, med brown and three diff greens.
Not gonna digitize/stencil, will sponge paint.
