H335 or Win 748 are decent rifle powders. Titegroup/High Gun works very well in pistol and light target loads for shotguns. I love Alliant powders, but since they've gone up so much in price as opposed to Hodgdon, I've been slowly transitioning.

I did the same thing years ago.

Hodgdons TiteGroup easily covered almost all of 25 pistol calibers AND 12 gauge shotshells. Shot s lot of .40 TiteGroup loads, both cast and jacketed bullets.

Acurate Arms #9 was my favorite Max magnum pistol loads.

Varget covered almost all Medium Highpower rifle loads, .223 to 30-06. Shot a LOT of Varget .260 Rem rounds, so I think the 6.5 creedmore would be fine

4831sc was my Magnum rifle powder.
Varget at the local gun shop is priced at $54 per lb.
    I'll pass on that.

I don’t know what’s different. You can get H335,BL-C2, CFE for 30 something but extruded powders which I prefer for my rifles are 20 bucks more. FYI, CFE didn’t do well for me. I still have a pound an a half of Varget I bought at Brian’s Surplus a couple years ago for $32 ish but wishing I had bought more because it’s a mirror image when Obama got elected in 08. Primers were hard to find so I bought lots of powder and 209 primers which I’m still good on. Primers are starting to become available but I’ve started looking at what I’m willing to pay versus what shoots very well out of my rifles.

The price tag on my 8lb tub of 8208XBR is $207.99 circa 2014. The Hodgdon site shows it now for $271.99. Looks like it is available direct from them in 1lbs for $39.99 but no 8 lbs available atm.

    8208xbr is $46 a lb here.

What other favorite rifle powders does anyone use for .223 that are good? I'd like to keep my stash of XBR for future use since it performs well and is accurate in my rifle. What's less expensive and more available than XBR? I've read mixed reviews of CFE223 on INGO or I'd just get a bunch of that.

Also, what powders are versatile enough to use for a wider range of rifle loads if my rifle collection were to grow to other calibers?

CFE223 you need to run max load or close to it to get anything decent that I've found.
I like Tac it does pretty good.
I use 75-77gr bullets. Most of my barrels are 1-8 twist. I have one 1-7 they all seem to like Tac and 75gr Hornady BTHP Match, and 75gr Speer TMJ.

8208 xbr is one of my favorite powders also, but I'm not paying that much for it

I realize the OP is looking for 3-4 powders, but the post made me recall that there have been a couple of articles in Handloader Magazine the past few years that provided a list of 10 powders that would cover everything.

The first article was in Issue number 326, from June of 2020, and mentioned the following powders:

    Unique
    H-4831
    IMR-3031
    IMR-4350
    H-4895
    IMR-4227
    Bullseye
    Accurate 5754
    Clays
    H-4198

The second article was in Issue number 340 from October 2022. The list was the same with only one difference, and that was H-4198 was replaced with Reloder-22.

Thanks, I’ll do some research. Might be what I’m looking for. Matter of fact thanks to everybody you all have helped a lot. Thanks again.

I've seen a lot of powders pop up in the classifieds lately. **Not a shameless plug, i've listed some but others have as well**

Might want to keep an eye there for people cleaning out their closets.
