Sounds like the WH already is "hardened" for RF-controlled "drones".

Did it just randomly crash, or was it brought down (jammer or projectile)?

Still some RC aircraft can generate tremendous speed. What's there to prevent someone from setting one in a straight line at a high rate of speed towards the WH? It could literally coast to the doorstep.

I wonder for how many pages this thread will drone on? :dunno:

14, before it gets locked. It's about to take a turn into sovereign rights of citizens to fly drones, then into the structure of the White House itself, and finally ending at a large-scale argument about Mitt Romney being a "moderate" peppered with snide remarks on abortions and the politics of the middle east.

First off, thank you for saying 'quadcopter' and not 'drone'.

Secondly, another DJI owner doing stupid stuff with his quadcopter... not surprising. Nine times out of ten it's one of these quadcopters, and the people who are flying them like idiots are ruining a very fun and enjoyable hobby.

Hurray, more negative press surround quadcopters and the hobby in general.

Decent follow-up this morning: White House gets drone defense wake-up call | Fox News

They talk about the vulnerability and there are programs for countering the threat. The technology isn't quite ready for prime time, but is expected to ramp up.

The guy flying the quadcopter was a government employee enjoying his hobby. No threat. This time. Anti-drone Drones apparently is a real thing and it's been in the works for a while. As you might imagine, finding incoming drones and quadcopters is not easily done. The Wi-Fi bandwidth is a known and can also be used to detect and deter/destroy, but a savy EE could set up his own operating BW outside the preassigned range. Going to take some true 21st century engineering to solve this threat. Sign of the times folks. It's an interesting period in which we live.

    .

Not fair. The owner's drunken friend did it. Though the owner letting said drunk friend fly it in restricted area could fit your assumption
