    My comments in red..
I do not agree with the signs, but I understand why they are there. Now here is an issue, some customers are offended by them, while others feel more comfortable that they are there. So what is the best way to appease two totally different mindsets?

A gun store should be the one place where we don't have to worry about getting hassled for carrying a gun. Having a sign like that tells me that they don't really believe in the product they're selling.

Also, I don't see how having a sand barrel promotes complacency. Can you elaborate on that point?

+1! This sign will be posted on my door and in the shop TODAY!

    Win.

    WHAT IS THE "MUZZLE RULE"?

    THIS IS A PRIVATE GUN-SHOP.
    WE WILL DECIDE WHAT YOU
    DO WITH YOUR WEAPON WHILE
    INSIDE THIS GUN-SHOP.
    KEEP WEAPON HOLSTERED
    UNTIL ASKED TO DISPLAY IT
    TO AN EMPLOYEE.
    WE VALUE YOUR PATRONAGE.
    WE RESPECT YOUR 2D AMENDMENT.
    RESPECT THE MUZZLE-RULE!

Muzzle Rule. " Do you see that big red circle on the ceiling?"
"Yes". "Well keep the muzzle of your weapon aimed on that dot
as long as you have your weapon in your hands while in this shop."

A gun store should be the one place where we don't have to worry about getting hassled for carrying a gun.
I agree, BUT it also should be a place where patrons and workers do not have loaded guns pointed at them.
Having a sign like that tells me that they don't really believe in the product they're selling.
I would disagree, I think it says they understand the capability of the weapon, but do not know the capabilities of the current owner.

Also, I don't see how having a sand barrel promotes complacency. Can you elaborate on that point?
UHH, I did not make that point, but do a google search for Army clearing barrel ND. You will find several accountings of accidents and incidents.
Once again, as I said previously, I do not care for the signs,
So I ask you for your input, what are your suggestions?

Remove all signage, that would be an easy solution, but then who is liable if someone gets shot?

Place sand barrels at all establishments that have "no loaded fireams" signs, but who will be responsible to provide training in the use of them.

Require mandatory training to purchase a firearm, maybe not a bad idea, but that does not follow the second admendmant.

    Looking forward to your suggestions.

I already gave my suggestion. "Keep your loaded handgun in its holster, you goober." Gander Mountain and Cabela's already have signs just like this and they work just fine (although they're a bit more diplomatic ;))

A sign that says "No Loaded Guns" is absolute. It requires the patron to disarm before he can enter the store. It makes no distinction between a self-defense firearm and something you're bringing in for sale or trade.

My LGS's don't have these signs, I understand the no loaded aspect to a weapon being brought in for a trade in or something, but why carry a sidearm that isn't loaded. Defeats the purpose. :dunno:

We have no sign at our place either and have no issue with you carrying in. However, we try and be aware of people that dont have safe handling of firearms ingrained into them. My biggest concern is when they want to show me what they have and need a holster. I have been swept too many times with loaded and unloaded firearms from customers.
