Out of what you listed (as someone with a revolver background) I'd recommend the L frame with a 2 1/2 or 3" (the 3" will have a full length ejector rod) If you pick the Governor with the legth of cylnder its like having a 4 or 6".

Not mentioned but I'd look at the Colt Night Cobra. 6 rounds in a size between a J and K frame.

    Good luck

Get a S&W Blued 586, walnut gripped, 6 shot 6” .357 Magnum and be done with it. Get it tuned by one of the master gunsmiths on INGO and you will be in revolver Xanadu.

While in my search I have totally diverted from a snobby. I found a very nice slightly used 629 N Frame 4” 44 Mag. Let the games begin......

A Ruger GP100 357 Magnum 7 Shot with a 6 Inch barrel is about as much fun as you can pack into a revolver. Ammo is the cheapest of the magnum revolvers and reloading the cartridge is very easy if you want to go that route.

My most fun revolver is my 629 4” 44 Mag. Love that S&W. My other 629s are fun too, but the 4” is just a blast in low light. Load it with some 240 gr. SWC at 44 Special levels and its very comfortable and accurate.

I wish I'd never sold my old 6 inch 686.
A gun shop sold my original 6" 686 for me some 30 years ago but I picked up another in 1994 and it has been my most often fired 357. Superb accuracy. Will have to load up some ammo for it soon.

As to the original post the L-Frame 7 shot would be a nice choice. Have one of them in the 2.5" barrel. Also have a 4" 586 that is a hec of a shooter.

But these days my 617-1 4" is my most fired Smith revolver.

While I love my S&W 4" 686, I have to say that the most fun gun I own is an old H&R Deluxe Sportsman. The grip takes a bit to get used to, but there is something cool about a top break 9 shot .22 revolver. You can get HKS speedloaders and the fun never stops. And when you are done shooting, you still have enough money for a nice lunch. How can you argue with shooting for an hour or so for under $10.00? Yes, bigger calibers are fun to shoot, but don't overlook those fun plinkers.

    I enjoy the 686s and 19/66 K frames.
My first and always is a M10-5, Tapered bbl(skinny), square stock in blue, 38Spec.

Shot plenty, no issues, carried a lot. Grip changes are easy, holsters available, speedloaders work.

I carried it in beginning LEO work, Security Details, Home defense, boondocking in Arkansas, and now rests in nightstand. Has 2 spare speedloaders, Surefire light.

I had a gunsmith friend clean up the finish, bought a used, but new to me, Magna Grip, and checked springs and for wear.

Got an A+, still ready to serve!
Its not fancy, but shoots well. Not bad for a 40 year old revolver! Good luck with yours!
