Heavy cream is hard to come by. Costco said that as soon as they get a skid in big orders take it all in a day or so. Other grocery stores have not had much.

Friday the kroger here in my area was all out of eggs and didn't know when they would get more???
To their credit, there is a good chance you spoke with a moron that doesnt deal with incoming shipments. So maybe THEY didnt know when they would get more. (some dont know the difference between *I* and *the store* when they communicate to customers) Doesnt mean HQ or management didnt know. For all we know, they were restocked by a truck Saturday AM.

Maybe your Kroger is better than mine?

Down here, anything that comes out of a Kroger employee's mouth should be taken with a grain of salt. (However, they could be out of salt?) They might just say anything to get you to leave them alone. "It's because covid, college kids back, supply chain, truck drivers, farmers, management, corporate, the wizard of oz, etc, etc, etc,..."

I started stocking up on can goods, boxed food, rice, water, propane, and gasoline about 6 months ago, and I'm not done.
If you can't see the writing on the wall yet, don't come to me when it does become legible to you.

    Is gruel oats or grits?
Sounds like it could be either...

Gruel is a food consisting of some type of cereal—such as ground oats, wheat, rye, or rice—heated or boiled in water or milk. It is a thinner version of porridge that may be more often drunk rather than eaten. Historically, gruel has been a staple of the Western diet, especially for peasants. Gruel may be made from millet, hemp, barley, or, in hard times, from chestnut flour or even the less bitter acorns of some oaks. Gruel has historically been associated with feeding the sick[1] and recently weaned children.

Had great success with our potato/tire experiments, planning on getting this going for next year.
